LabCoP Extended ECHO

Session for 4 June!

Join us this Thursday, June 4th, 2026, at 16:00 EAT for our Extended LabCoP ECHO Session, focused on Data-driven strategic planning and prioritization: Lessons from Nigeria’s National Tuberculosis, Leprosy, and Buruli Ulcer Control Program

Background

Programmatic planning and prioritisation should be data-driven, inclusive, and aligned with broader health system goals. WHO encourages countries to apply a “3D” approach to priority setting in support of universal health coverage: Data, Dialogue, and Decision. This requires a structured process that brings together epidemiological, health system, and behavioural data, along with disease burden estimates, cost and cost-effectiveness analyses, and equity considerations. However, weaknesses in routine data systems, including limited coverage, poor data quality, incomplete reporting, fragmented data sources, and continued reliance on paper-based systems, often prevent routine TB programme and surveillance data from adequately informing planning and decision-making. To support the implementation of TB data tools, WHO published the Compendium of data and evidence-related tools for use in TB planning and programming in 2021. The compendium helps TB programmes identify tools that can fill critical data gaps, prioritize which tools to implement, and determine the best timing and sequence for their use during the NSP or funding cycle. In this webinar, Nigeria’s NTP will share its experience applying the WHO framework in developing its 2027–2031 NSP, including subnational strategic planning, and how this comprehensive, data-driven approach supported the integration of laboratory systems strengthening objectives.

Session Outcomes
