Dear Epiphany family,

What a joyous Pentecost we celebrated together: the liturgy, the music (especially that amazing anthem), the light from the Paschal Candle spreading to fill the whole space as we marked the Spirit of the Lord filling the whole earth! I’m also grateful for our parish life committee and the wonderful picnic they prepared for us.

Let me also express my gratitude to Jason Sullivan, our Facilities Manager, for the great work he has done overseeing the repairs from our sewer line backup. The damage was not as extensive as it could have been, mostly thanks to his quick work in cleaning up afterwards. If you see him around the church, be sure to thank him for the great work he does.

By the time you are reading this I will be on day two of my sabbatical. I will return to the office Monday, July 13. While I’m away, you can reach out to the Rev. Carmie McDonald for pastoral needs and other questions that may arise. The staff will be keeping a list of things that happen while I’m away for me to read upon my return, including pastoral events like births and deaths as well as other significant things that go on in the life of the parish. I am going to try to avoid social media and my cell phone as much as possible in keeping with the invitation to sabbath practices that Dr. Bonfiglio offered us in our Sunday morning formation class. I will not be checking or responding to email, text messages, or voicemails. I look forward to reconnecting when I return. I trust Carmie to reach out to me if there’s something I need to know urgently.

While I hope you all will be practicing some sabbath as well, there are some good things planned for this summer at Epiphany. We have some wonderful guest preachers lined up for June and early July. The final performance of the Bach/Biber Project is this Sunday at 4pm. You can read more about that below. Our summer movie series Faith and Film kicks off June 14. And our Expanded Coffee Hour is a great way to stay connected to each other during the summer months.

I look forward to seeing you in mid-July.

Grace and peace,

Amy

Epiphany Stars

On May 22, Epiphany member Ann Fowler received a diploma with distinction from the Society of Botanical Artists' Distance Learning Diploma Course (DLDC) based in London. She was also given the DLDC Award of Excellence for earning the highest marks during the two-and-a-half-year program.

One of her assignment submissions was an ink-and-watercolor painting of an old-growth water oak located at the site of our parish retreat, The Mountain, in North Carolina. (That is NOT a photo).

Have you or another parishioner you know given a gift of their time and talent to Epiphany? Do you know someone who has received recognition for a personal achievement? If so, please let us know!
