As we approach the end of the semester, please be sure to check your student's grades and attendance on a daily basis. There are still five (5) weeks to go in the semester, so there is still time for your student to work with his or her teacher(s).
While teachers, and sometimes multiple teachers, will contact you if your student is not doing well or is declining, you do not need to wait for them, please feel free to email your student's teacher(s) with concerns. If your student is not doing well in multiple classes, please note that you will be contacted multiple times.
If you need help in accessing your student's grades, please visit the "For Families" section of our website and click on the "Infinite Campus" tab on the right. Then simply follow the directions there.
Thank you,
Hinsdale South Administration

World Language Happenings, Spring 2023
On Tuesday, May 16, an information meeting for the Greece and Italy Spring Break 2024 Trip will be held at Hinsdale Central HS in Room 216 at 7:00 pm. Latin & Social Studies teacher Dr. DeRousse in partnership with travel company ACIS is leading the trip which will run March 20-29. The trip begins in Athens, goes to Delphi, Patras, Bari, Sorrento, Pompeii and Rome, and traces the rise of Greco-Roman culture with too many highlights to list. The trip is open to responsible Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors with good academic and behavioral standing. All information will be presented at the 5/16 meeting, at which point enrollment will open (capped at 30). To get planning and trip updates, opt into the email list here.
On Tues., May 23, we will be celebrating the induction of 27 students into their respective world language honors’ societies: Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (Spanish), Delta Epsilon Phi (German), Société Honoraire de Français (French), and the National Latin Honor Society with a celebratory lunch for those students and their world language teachers. Congratulations to all for your hard work, achievement, and dedication to the study of another language!
On Wed., May 24, Sra. Lombard’s AP Spanish class will be taking a field trip to Meson Sabika in Naperville to experience an authentic Spanish meal of tapas and paella, supporting the D86 World Language mission by engaging students in authentic language and deepening their global awareness and cultural appreciation. Tapas (or small plates to be shared) originated in southern Spain and spread in popularity throughout the country, and paella is a traditional rice dish from Valencia seasoned with saffron.
On Thurs., May 25, Mme. Mikulcik and Mme. Chaney’s French classes will be taking a field trip to Chez Francois Poutinerie in Naperville to live the World Language Department mission of "engaging in authentic language" with a French-Canadian business owner, "deepen students’ global awareness and cultural appreciation" through trying an authentic French Canadian dish, and "deepen students’ empathy for others" while learning about how this business owner is giving back to the community by providing employment opportunities to adults with developmental disabilities. Bon appetit!
