Superintendent's Weekly Message

Dear Hermosa Families,

Regular attendance and on-time arrival at school are essential to every student’s success. Each school day is carefully structured to maximize learning, build routines, and foster a strong sense of belonging. When students are present and punctual, they are better prepared to engage fully in their education.

It’s that time of year where HBCSD is experiencing a rise in absences and tardies. Please be aware that as a District, we have an obligation to notify parents when a student’s attendance becomes chronic or truant, so many families are receiving attendance notifications. Use this time to have conversations with your child about ways to improve their attendance. Additionally, families on an interdistrict permit may be receiving warning letters for truancy or chronic absenteeism, as positive attendance is a condition of enrollment.

Thank you for your continued support in prioritizing your child’s education. Together, we can ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed.

Warm regards,

Dr. Susan Wildes

Superintendent of Schools, Hermosa Beach City School District

This virtual playground is where players use Lego-style characters to role-play adopting pets, solving mysteries, going to school, and much more. With over 7.5 million daily players—including 40 million under age 13—Roblox has become a big part of kids' lives online. With such an expansive digital world to play in, it's important to set up age-appropriate parental controls. Learn what to watch out for and how to set parental controls.

Hermosa View School Principal News

Our kindergarten classes had a fantastic time on their walking field trip to the Hermosa Beach Police Department. It was such a meaningful experience, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to connect with and learn from our incredible police officers!

We wrapped up the week with a View Flag Ceremony, where we honored students who have demonstrated respect throughout the month. We are so proud of their efforts and the positive example they set for others. A special shoutout to Ms. Crenshaw’s class for their wonderful performance of "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley and the Wallers. They did an amazing job!

Please be sure to check your email for your child’s report card if you have not done so already.

As we head into this week, we are in our final push for one of our biggest fundraisers of the year, the Dolphin Dash! We truly appreciate your support and encourage you to consider contributing if you haven’t yet. We are looking forward to a fun and exciting event on Thursday, March 26. Students have been eagerly telling me how excited they are, especially about the chance to pie me in the face!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support.

Warmly,

Dr. Jessica Ghobrial, Hermosa View Principal / HB Preschool Director

Scholar Quiz was AMAZING!! 🎉

And the winners are our amazing 6th graders: Link L, Ayan S., Austin P, and Liam M. The energy across campus has been absolutely palpable. Students have been gathering into classrooms during lunch to cheer on their classmates and friends as they battled it out—such a fun and spirited scene.

A special shoutout to our teachers who gave up their lunch periods to support the event as question readers, flag judges, and scorekeepers. Thank you as well to our volunteers for helping keep everything running smoothly. BIG THANKS shoutout to Study Hut Tutoring for sponsoring our Scholar Quiz—we can't wait until next year!

Our Spring Fling Middle School Dance on Friday was a hit! Students enjoyed pop-up golf, dancing, great food, and time with friends. We had a strong turnout, with some students even coming in straight from their HBYB championship games!

We’re kicking off our “Day in the Life” Week this week—one of our fan-favorite events! Teachers will step into the shoes of a student volunteer, experiencing everything from arriving on time to first period, putting phones away, tackling that 4th period math test, dressing out for PE, and navigating lunch just like our students do. We’re excited to share highlights with you!

Next week is also all things Dolphin Dash! 🐬

Let’s get to PledgeStar and get registered! We’d love to see participation grow—every student who participates, even with just one donation, makes a meaningful impact on our school community.

Warmly,

Jessica Bledsoe, Hermosa Valley Principal
