If you are a resident of San Antonio, you will also be given the choice to vote on
a proposition to amend the San Antonio City Charter known as “Prop A”.
Prop A has several different provisions packaged as a single amendment to the City Charter. While not all of the provisions are harmful, some of them could increase crime rates and make citizens and local businesses open targets for predatory criminals.
The San Antonio Apartment Association Board of Directors are most concerned that the charter amendment will prevent police from arresting thieves, burglars, and vandals. The ballot language for Prop A includes provisions “Requiring officers to issue citations instead of making arrests for:
“… theft of property less than $750.”
“… theft of services less than $750.”
“… graffiti, with damages less than $2,500.”
“… criminal mischief with damages less than $750.”
Additionally, certain simple assault and family violence charges will also fall under the cite and release expansion Prop A mandates.
SAAA urges you to vote AGAINST Prop A and talk to your family, friends, neighbors, and professional peers and encourage them to vote AGAINST Prop A, too.
Please educate yourself about the impact Prop A could have on your residents and your businesses.
