Dear Saints Families:
Jesus’ grace and peace to you!
As we prepare to enter Crean Lutheran High School’s 20th year of ministry, we remain deeply grateful for the Lord’s continued care over our school and for the privilege of partnering with parents in the education, formation, and care of students. Our mission of Proclaiming Jesus Christ through Excellence in Education shapes not only what happens in our classrooms, chapels, activities, and athletic programs, but also how we steward the safety and well-being of the students, employees, families, and guests entrusted to our care.
With that in mind, effective July 1, Crean Lutheran expanded its campus safety efforts by partnering with a contracted, licensed security company to provide two uniformed, armed security professionals on campus when students are present, including during after-school activities. These individuals will work in coordination with our Campus Supervision team as an additional visible safety presence on campus.
The purpose of this added support is to strengthen our overall campus safety posture through visibility, prevention, situational awareness, and coordinated response. While we continue to pray that our campus never faces a serious security threat, wise stewardship requires that we prepare thoughtfully, regularly evaluate our practices, and take appropriate steps to care for our community.
These security professionals will be visible during the school day and at student activities. Their regular responsibilities may include assisting with crosswalk duty before and after school, maintaining a visible presence on foot or in a golf cart, supporting campus access procedures, and confirming whether students outside assigned areas are permitted to be there. Student discipline, student support, and school decision-making will continue to be handled by Crean Lutheran employees and administrators.
The security professionals assigned to Crean Lutheran are required to meet applicable Bureau of Security and Investigative Services requirements and training standards. In addition, they receive training in areas such as use of force, reporting, de-escalation, and firearm safety. Crean Lutheran also continues to value its strong partnership with the Irvine Police Department, which remains an essential partner in significant emergency response.
We recognize that visible armed security on campus may be new for some members of our community. Please know this decision was made prayerfully and thoughtfully, with the desire to care well for students, employees, families, and guests. Our confidence is ultimately not in any procedure, program, or person, but in the Lord, who faithfully cares for His children. At the same time, we believe it is wise and appropriate to take proactive steps that support a safe, orderly, and welcoming campus.
Thank you for your continued partnership, trust, and prayers as we begin this milestone year together.
In Christ,
Mr. Jacob Groves
Director of Campus Supervision
Ms. Christine Cosenza
Vice Principal of Student Services
