A Summer HR Picnic

Helping organizations align their people strategy with their business strategy!

Life is indeed a picnic! In HR, just like the world around us, our baskets always seem to be overflowing with responsibilities and challenges, fun and opportunities. To thrive in this dynamic field, we must embody versatility, wearing multiple hats while earning the trust and respect of all stakeholders at the (picnic) table.

So, let's embrace this adventure with enthusiasm and curiosity as we delve into our summertime questions of " Who? Where? What?" as we talk with YPHR Founder, Sonya Weiland, about her summer HR picnic!

Q: Sonya, WHO is joining you on your YPHR Summer Picnic?

A: Summer picnics are an excellent opportunity to bring your team members together, show appreciation, and step-away from the hustle-and-bustle of everyday work! In June, the Partners planned a fun working lunch on Lake Erie- but like typical Cleveland weather, the lake decided that our picnic would be an indoor lunch (flexibility and versatility are critical!) I can't imagine a summer without my wonderful team of Partners and Consultants!

Q: WHAT is one favorite thing in your HR Picnic Basket?

Besides watermelon, which I LOVE in the summer… we added Predictive Index to our HR Picnic Basket! Our recent partnership with Predictive Index allows us to help our clients make data-driven decisions in the workplace in order to optimize not only ‘hiring’ top talent, but tools for ‘inspiring’ their existing talent, too!

We are all AWESOME, and using PI helps us understand the "WHOLE" person to ensure proper job and cultural fit, team synergy and organizational efficiency. Click below to dive deeper and learn more about the many tools within PI that can help support your organization!

Q: How do you decide WHERE to host your summer picnic?

When brainstorming "where" or "how" to host your summer employee outing, the question that should be in the forefront of your minds is "What do our employees want?"

Using tools such as employee feedback surveys, polls, suggestion boxes, etc., can help choosing the perfect summer picnic to engage your employees and help them feel appreciated!

In his newest and most transformative book, Trust and Inspire, Stephen M.R. Covey offers a simple yet bold solution: to shift from this “command and control” model to a leadership style of “trust and inspire.”

People don’t want to be managed; they want to be led. Trust and Inspire is a new way of leading that starts with the belief that people are creative, collaborative, and full of potential.

People with this kind of leader are inspired to become the best version of themselves and to produce their best work.

In this “beautifully written page-turner” (Amy Edmondson, Harvard Business School professor), Covey offers the solution to the future of work: where a dispersed workforce will be the norm, necessitating trust and collaboration across time zones, cultures, personalities, generations, and technology.
