Hello friends –
I know it’s a little unusual for me to send out a President’s letter outside of the GBar News, but as you know, it’s kind of an unusual time. All of us on the Greenville County Bar Association Executive Committee hope you and your families have made it through the worst of this mess. I know just from talking to some of you that several bar members and their families have been displaced or had significant damage to their homes and/or offices. If there’s anything we can do to help, please contact me (eric@greenvillesclaw.com), our executive director Melinda Davidson (melinda@gbarsc.org), or Anne Culbreath (anne@culbreathadr.com), chair of our Caring Committee.
If you’ve paid attention to the GCBA social media accounts, you know we’re running a series called #heleneheroes, spotlighting members of the bar who are stepping up to help. If you know of someone going above and beyond the call of duty, please let Simone Holloway know about them so we can share the information! Simone’s email is simone.holloway@mgclaw.com.
We know many of you still are without the internet (or even the electricity) you need to run your firms. We also know that many of you have both of those business essentials and maybe an unused office or conference room that your fellow lawyers could borrow for a few hours here or there to get some necessary work done. So, if you need/can give help in this regard, we’re happy to build that bridge. Please let Tom Vanderbloemen know of your need or desire to help, as Tom has graciously agreed to coordinate the matchmaking effort between the haves and the have nots (and frankly, it was Tom’s idea – great thinking, Tom!). Tom can be reached at tom@vanderbloemenlaw.com.
Finally, and just as importantly, we need some time together away from chainsaws, generators, and clean up. This Friday is our 3rd annual Barbecue Competition, this year at Double Stamp Brewery. We’ve got plenty of room for you and anyone you’d like to join you, as well as lots of delicious barbecue, beer, and sides for your enjoyment. The registration link is below. Also, so we can all be #heleneheroes, we’re asking everyone coming to bring some of the below items that are needed by folks in our community dealing with issues from the hurricane:
Canned goods (vegetables, fruits, soups, meats) *POP TOPS PREFERRED*
Boxed meals (pasta, rice, cereal)
Peanut butter and protein bars
Bottled water and sports drinks
Diapers, baby wipes and formulas
Hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, feminine hygiene)
First aid supplies (bandages, pain relievers)
Cleaning supplies (disinfectant wipes, trash bags)
Stay safe, let us know if we can help, and come join us Friday afternoon!
Eric
