Presidents Message
Dear IISE Data Analytics & Information Systems (DAIS) Division Members,
It is my pleasure to serve as your president and provide a quick update on last year's DAIS activities, changes in leadership, and exciting plans and upcoming events for 2019-2020.
Last year, under our past president Brian Quanz's leadership, with the new name and theme of our division, we had a strong showing for our division at the 2019 Industrial & Systems Engineering Research Conference (ISERC) held at the Rosen Shingle Creek, in Orlando FL, with 164 presentations organized in about 41 sessions, almost doubled from the previous year. This growth in interest and activity could not have been accomplished without your support and participation, and the hard work of our board members, so thank you! Special thanks to the invited session chairs: Hui Yang (Penn State), Sebastian Pokutta (Georgia Tech) and Ajay Deshpande (IBM), and contributed session chairs: Changqing Cheng (SUNY Binghamton) and Xin Chen (SIU Edwardsville). Also special thanks to Na Zou and Ying Lin for organizing the best student paper competition, Sinan Onal and Chen Kan for organizing the best paper competition, and Andrew Yu and Chen Kan for organizing the Mobile/Web App competition.
The key activities of the DAIS division planned for 2019-2020 are:
- IIE-DAIS Mobile/Web App Competition
- Webinar Series
- Best Paper Award Competition
- Best Student Paper Award Competition
- Data Analytics Competition
- DAIS Tracks and Town Hall Meeting in the 2020 IISE Conference & Expo
There is one exciting new addition. We are going to have the inaugural data analytics competition this year, so please look out the announcement and hope you will be able to participate!
I would like to thank our board members for their committed service in making these activities possible
(the full list of current board members is available on the
DAIS website
). Please also join me in welcoming our new president-elect, Changqing Cheng from SUNY Binghamton, and new or reelected directors, Saeed Ghanbartehrani from Ohio University, Xiao Liu from the University of Arkansas, Moufid Dardas from Hydro One, and Bing Si from Binghamton University. Thank you for participating in the election. If interested in actively contributing, please also consider applying for the DAIS board - the call for nominations will be out in early 2020 and we encourage applicants from both industry and academia. Additionally, I would like to thank our exiting board members for all their hard work and dedication: Xin Chen, Dongping Du, and Brian Quanz.
Finally, the 2020 IISE Annual Conference & Expo will be held May 30 - June 2, 2020, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana. Please continue to contribute to the DAIS by attending our track sessions, and inviting your fellow colleagues and students to participate our division's activities. If you have any comment and idea to help us improve our division, please contact any of the board (board members are listed on the DAIS website).
I look forward to your participation in the DAIS division and track of the 2020 IISE Annual Conference and Expo and seeing you there in New Orleans in May, and I wish you all a prosperous year!
Sincerely,
Andrew Yu DAIS Division President, 2019-2020
