Santa Claus is Coming to San Gabriel This Friday!


Get ready, San Gabriel! Santa Claus will begin his journey this Friday, December 20, atop a festive fire truck, accompanied by his spirited fire and police entourage. Over four nights, Santa will spread holiday cheer through the streets of San Gabriel, waving to residents and visitors.


Each evening, Santa will depart from Fire Station 51 (1303 South Del Mar Avenue) at 5:30 p.m. and travel through different areas of the city until 9 p.m.


Santa’s Route Schedule:


Friday, December 20: Southwest San Gabriel

(South of the railroad tracks to the I-10 freeway, Del Mar Avenue west to New Avenue.)


Saturday, December 21: Southeast San Gabriel

(South of the railroad tracks to the I-10 freeway, Del Mar Avenue east to Charlotte Avenue.)


Sunday, December 22: Northwest San Gabriel

(North of the railroad tracks to Longden Avenue, Del Mar Avenue west to Alhambra Road.)


Monday, December 23: Northeast San Gabriel

(North of the railroad tracks to Longden Avenue, Del Mar Avenue east to Muscatel Avenue.)


Residents can track Santa’s journey in real-time using the Google Maps link available at SanGabrielCity.com/Santa, which will go live at 5:30 p.m. each night. For live updates and possible changes to the schedule, follow the San Gabriel Fire Department on social media @SanGabrielFD.

Discover the Magic of Theatre for Ages 11-18!


Do you know an aspiring performer between the ages of 11 and 18? The Mission Playhouse is offering Theatre Basics & Acting 101 class.


This engaging 8-week program runs from January 6 through February 26, with classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. For just $125, students can explore the fundamentals of theatre, including character development, script analysis, and performance techniques, all under the guidance of experienced theatre professionals.  


The program concludes with an exciting performance on the historic Playhouse stage, giving students the chance to showcase their newfound skills!

Free Family Series: Diavolo Architecture In Motion Present T.R.U.S.T.


The second part of our Free Family Series at the Mission Playhouse will feature a thrilling performance by five troupe members from Diavolo/Architecture in Motion. The event, titled T.R.U.S.T., will take place on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at 2 p.m.


Known for their breathtaking displays of movement, the troupe combines the skills of dancers, gymnasts, and actors to create mesmerizing performances. Using acrobatic wheels, ladders, and other props, the ensemble’s gravity-defying artistry promises to captivate audiences of all ages.


This event is sponsored by The Music Center’s Arts Grown L.A., a community initiative created to deepen and expand the reach of free artistic events across Los Angeles County.

Winter Activities at the San Gabriel Library


The San Gabriel Library is spreading cheer this season with fun activities for the community this month.


Design a Wintry Card - Thursday, December 19, from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m.


Adults are invited to take a break from the holiday rush and get creative by designing wintry cards. Participants can craft heartfelt cards for loved ones or keep one as a personal keepsake.


New Year's Party - Tuesday, December 31, from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m.

Children ages 5 to 12 are welcome to celebrate the New Year by exploring traditions from around the world. Activities include reading books, playing games, making New Year's resolutions, decorating festive party hats, and enjoy fun group activities.


Attendence for the New Year's Party is limited, and advance registration is required.

Overnight Parking Exemptions for the Holiday Season


This holiday season, San Gabriel will suspend overnight parking enforcement on the following dates:


  • December 24, from 2 a.m., through December 26 at 6 a.m.
  • December 31, from 2 a.m. to January 1, 2025, at 6 a.m.


During these periods, overnight parking will not be enforced. However, overnight parking permits will still be required on all other days. 


Temporary overnight parking permits can be purchased 24/7 at the following locations:


  • San Gabriel Police Department, 625 S. Del Mar Avenue
  • San Gabriel Community Services Building, 250 S. Mission Drive
  • Marshall Satellite Police Station, 311 W. Marshall Street
  • Online: PayMyCite.com/SanGabriel

Trash Pick-Up Schedule for this Holiday Season


Athens Services will be closed on Wednesday, December 25, and on Wednesday, January 1, for Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Due to the holidays, trash collection service will be delayed one day for the rest of the week.


  • Tuesday services will occur as usual.
  • Wednesday services will occur on Thursday.
  • Thursday services will occur on Friday.
  • Friday services will occur on Saturday.
