Join our interactive Zoom WILPF US event! Register in advance for the October Jane Addams Branch event using this link.
Before hearing from October's guest speaker, we will hear updates about the projects of two previous guest speakers. Check out their websites in advance of the October 16 meeting, if possible:
Ellen Barfield is this month’s guest speaker!
Long-time member of both WILPF and Veterans For Peace (VFP), Ellen Barfield, traveled to South Korea in June on a VFP delegation to join the commemoration of two schoolgirls crushed by a US tank on a narrow civilian road. Also, she’ll seek to move forward plans for a Citizens Tribunal with Korean families of Korean forced laborers who died in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
These families are seeing to bringing lawsuits against the US for those bombings. The Japanese were forced to agree after World War II not to sue the US. However, the tens of thousands of Korean forced laborers who were also vaporized were not even remembered back then. The 2026 Tribunal, to hold the US accountable, is to be held in NYC.
Ellen will show photos and discuss the atrocities empires commit, in war time, as in WW II, and even when just playing war "games". It was during war games that the girls were killed.
After Ellen’s presentation there will be a short time for Q&A. We’ll welcome announcements – from Board members, issue committee chairs, branch leaders and everyone else.
If you have any question about anything WILPF, this is your chance to ask it!
