Medicare Annual Enrollment Period

It is Okay to Ignore All the Hype!

There is always a lot of noise around Medicare Enrollment Period. Insurers and Marketing companies make a lot of claims to attempt to attract new enrollments. But it all comes own to these three important points:

  1. Most of you have a Medicare Supplement. If you have a supplement, and you are happy with it, there is nothing you need to do to renew or compare your supplement. Supplements are not a part of Annual Enrollment Period.
  2. Your Part D Prescription Drug Plan will make plan changes. Some will change premium, some will change co-pays, and some will change their formulary. Watch for the Annual Notice of Change. The Insurer must send this to you before October 1.
  3. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, or would like to try one, there are many to choose from. We have selected the plans we believe are the best balance of low cost and good care. But if you have questions, give us a call.

Aetna Silverscript Premium Increase

Although we have not received official notice yet, some clients have already received the notice of premium increase for the Silverscript Smart RX plan. We are hearing that the premium increase is over 400%, from $4.30 to over $18 per month. Obviously, everyone enrolled in this plan should review their options for coverage in 2024.

My thought is that Silverscript seriously underestimate the number of people who would enroll in this low premium plan, and are now trying to make back some of their losses on this plan.

We have almost 200 clients enrolled in this plan, and we earn zero commission. That's right, this plan is NON commissionable. We are hopeful that Wellcare will be a better option for many of you next year but we have not seen their rates yet.

We will be getting more drug plan rates this week. Please know, Medicare is being very specific about how we proceed with reviews this year. It will not be easy. but we are committed to serving you, our clients.
