Pre-registration is Required by October 5

Please join us for a guided tour of the Black House Museum at Woodlawn. The historic Black House contains original furnishings, from three generations of the Black family who owned Woodlawn.

The house tour lasts about 45 minutes. We will also have ample time for a self-guided tour of the Woodlawn grounds which include croquet courts, dry-laid fieldstone walls, hayfields, walking trails, and more. The newly built barn stands on the footprint of the old barn and includes a replica of the original facade.

Please note that the house tour includes periods of standing, walking, and climbing stairs.

The Black House, constructed in 1824 includes different styles of European and American furniture, portraits and miniatures, books, souvenirs from trips abroad, sleighs and carriages, and an assortment of silver, china, and glassware. All items in the collection are directly connected to the family or workers of Woodlawn.

Linda Robinson

The Decline of Rural Healthcare & What it Means for Maine's Future

The elimination of maternity care in rural Maine has an impact more far reaching than it seems. Aside from the risks to families associated with traveling long distances for health care, there is an economic risk to eliminating women’s health services in rural towns. This talk will outline the progression of how the decision to close rural health services evolved, the effect these decisions have on Maine’s population, and the economic impact they present for rural communities.

Linda Robinson was a founding member of the Women’s Health Center in 1993 and practiced there for 23 years. She has worked internationally in several capacities and most recently completed a Fulbright Scholarship in Malawi. She has taught The History of Women’s Health Care at College of the Atlantic. Her next project will be collecting and writing women’s stories about access to maternity care in rural Maine.

You must register at least a week in advance of this event to reserve your spot. We hope you'll join us, register today!

The luncheon begins at 11:30. The presentation begins at 12:30. Zoom participants will receive a Zoom link via email the day before the event. Audio-enhancing headsets are available for all ASC courses and presentations.

2026 Clunan Lecture

Colin Woodard's lecture The Last Best Hope: The 250 Year Struggle for the American Experiment in a Divided Federation was a timely talk and well-received. There is a link below to the video recording of his lecture and to an article by Carrie Jones of The Bar Harbor Story covering the event.

Thank you to all who attended, to the generous sponsors and donors and to the volunteers who helped to make it happen.
