Tips for fall recruiting

,

Fall recruiting has started (even if it doesn't feel like it!) - and it's time to take care of all the little things that will make sure you're 100% ready!

The 100 Week Sprint team

To-do's this week
Got 5 minutes? Update your LinkedIn profile and resume with your summer experience.
Got 30 minutes? Try on your interview suit, shoes, and accessories and make sure everything looks as it should.
Got an hour? Send emails to your advisory board and get an honest opinion from a friend. Let them know what you did with your summer and what you're recruiting for this fall.
Five ways to prepare for the recruiting onslaught

It's easy to assume that recruiting will be easier this fall. Remember, though, there are steps you can take to make sure you're really ready to dive right into recruiting as soon as you step back on campus.

1. Contact your advisory board: share your experiences from the summer, and what you are recruiting for now. This is also a good time to reconnect with other people in your network you haven't been in touch with for a while.

Six places to invest your job-searching money

While you invest tens of thousands of dollars in your education, it can be tough to spend a single incremental dollar to prepare yourself for your job search. Here are our thoughts on the best places to spend your money as you get ready for recruiting this fall.

1. Haircuts: every six weeks, whether you think you need it or not. (True story: I once knew someone who almost lost a consulting job until a partner took pity on him and took him aside to suggest he trim his shaggy locks before his final interview; he took the advice, and got the job.)

How much value could YOU create in an hour?

The reality is that career outcomes - responsibilities, compensation, optionality, and leverage - will be shaped by decisions you make and communicate now, not later. Over the years, our clients have found that career success rewards early, intentional planning. As one of our clients recently said, "I needed to talk to you sooner!" - the longer you wait, the harder it is to help.

If you are looking to invest in yourself and take more control of your career conversations, think about investing an hour with us to create a solid plan for your next career steps. This could include:

  • Create an action plan to negotiate your full-time offer, or decide whether you will even take it
  • Plan your outreach for networking to give you a head start on full-time recruiting
  • Finalize your narrative for full-time recruiting in order to optimize your results
  • Optimize your recruiting strategy based on our insights from numerous conversations covering consulting, banking, tech, entrepreneurship, PE, VC and investing banking
  • Strategize how you will get the most out of your 2nd year if taking your full-time offer
  • Decide on your Plan B (and even Plan C)
