This talk examines a new kind of "hyperlocal news" agency in Chicago that is keeping neighborhoods informed block-by-block and moment-by-moment when ICE or any other civil rights abuses occur. It is also there in more "normal" situations about sports, culture, and the arts but this unique microview of city block news has helped many people not be abducted in Chicago. Three ex-major newspaper reporters started a GoFundMe and launched this non-profit news service. It was the single most successful funding campaign to that time. Now Block Club Chicago is lending its resources to the major dailies. Its reporters are appearing on national news review shows.
