Cultivating Relationships

and Understanding

Across Borders

Our 2026/2027 Young Adult Volunteers (YAVs): Santiago, Jesus (2026/2026), Olivia (2025/2026), Penelope, Juan Luis, Katherine, and Melissa with Ximena, our FDC Social Media and Events Coordinator

Dear friends,

As we are confronted by the challenges of life and ministry on the border, one of the important spiritual disciplines that helps sustain our ministry are circles of gratitude. It's a simple practice of "circling up" with our staff, with our local partners, and/or with delegations from churches, universities, seminaries, or high schools and sharing what we are thankful for and recognizing the gift of each person in the circle.

We are thankful for you who are an important part of our extended circle. Whether through your prayers, encouraging words, advocacy, or material or financial support, you help our ministry fulfill our mission to cultivate relationships and understanding across borders, respond in faith to the realities of migration, and respond in faith to the realities of the drug culture.

Muchas gracias!

Two Short Films This Thursday, Nov 5, at 7:00pm ET

"Keeping Families Together" and

"Bringing People Together Across Borders"

STEVE ZEOLI, former seminary intern with FDC, professional videographer and founder of Rainmakers Community, is inviting us to a screening of two short films that he produced highlighting Café Justo farming families.

This Thursday, November 5th, he’ll show “Keeping Families Together” and “Bringing People Together Across Borders,” that highlight the exciting economic work changing lives. Carmina Sanchez, who became the production manager of Café Justo upon the retirement of Daniel Cifuentes, and Adrian Gonzalez, director of customer service, will be present to share their perspectives.

Film starts at 7 pm ET / 6 pm CT / 5 pm MT / 4 pm PT

Café Justo, a grower-owned Coffee Cooperative, was created to address root causes of migration. They are working for the day when people can migrate if they want to not because they have to. For our next two meetings, we’ll be featuring films shot in the coffee fields of southern Chiapas, Mexico.

More than 20 years ago, 26 coffee farming families got together and said, “If we can control the price of our coffee, we can stay on our land.” They took charge and stepped out with solid faith and generations of coffee growing knowledge.

Now, nearly 25 years later, these families are thriving, doing work they love, and prospering both economically and spiritually. And we are going to explore this amazing company with short films that feature these bold founding families.

Children's Enrichment Ministry Arts

Children's Paintings on Display in Phoenix

WE ARE GRATEFUL to Young Arts Arizona for opening its doors to host the “LIBERTAD” exhibition in Phoenix for a couple of months, featuring artwork by participants in Frontera de Cristo’s Children’s Enrichment Program.

We are delighted that this collaboration continues to bring new life and opportunities for creative expression to the children and adolescents who, in 2025, began exploring art as a form of expression, catharsis, and connection under the guidance of local artist Yadira Camacho Villa.

Let’s celebrate the bonds we continue to build by sharing the transformative power of art!

Federal Government Denies Permits for Lifesaving Water

from the Humane Borders blog "Blue Barrel Diaries"

Humane Borders is one of several humanitarian aid organizations along the US-Mexico border. It was established in the year 2000 in response to reports of a drastic increase in the number of migrant deaths on Arizona's border with Mexico.

FEDERAL AGENCIES HAVE DECLINED TO RENEW PERMITS for a dozen lifesaving water stations in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert operated by nonprofit Humane Borders. The denials come during a recent surge of migrant deaths, with the remains of 86 migrants found so far this year — most dying from lack of water and extreme heat.

Tucson-based Humane Borders received word of the nonrenewal from the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The U.S.-Mexico border is the deadliest land migration route in the world, according to the International Organization for Migration.

“Water is a human right, and the removal of water stations during a surge of migrant deaths is deplorable,” says Humane Borders Executive Director Octavio Fuentes. “The government’s border strategy, known as Prevention Through Deterrence, has pushed people into this desert for 30 years. Now, it’s denying water and more people will die.”

Each red dot on this map represents a migrant death on the southern border of Arizona.

Juan Luis, one of the YAVs serving with Frontera de Cristo, is working on a project to help us learn more about the lives of those who have died in Cochise County and whom we remember during our weekly Healing Our Borders Prayer Vigil at 5:15 pm MT on Tuesdays. Email us to request the zoom link if you'd like to participate virtually.

Restore Permits for Lifesaving Water Stations in the Arizona Desert

FEDERAL AGENCIES ARE REMOVING WATER from one of the deadliest stretches of desert on the continent. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the National Park Service (NPS), and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) have refused to renew permits for a dozen water stations run by Humane Borders, a Tucson nonprofit. The decision ends a 25-year partnership and removes the final station at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, north of Lukeville.

The timing could not be worse. At least 89 migrants have been found dead in Arizona so far this year, most of them killed by extreme heat and dehydration. The International Organization for Migration calls the U.S.-Mexico border the world’s deadliest migration route over land. Brad Jones, a researcher who maps desert deaths with Humane Borders, says the count of remains found has climbed from 75 in August to at least 89 now.

Help Us Welcome Them with Coffee

"THE LOVE MERCY, DO JUSTICE" initiative was created by Frontera de Cristo and Café Justo to provide coffee for migrant shelters along the southern border. Thousands of women and men each week are greeted with a cup of coffee, a meal, and vital medical attention when they are repatriated into Mexico.
