CARVER CENTER IS HUMBLED

Last weekend, our CEO, Anne Bradner, had the pleasure of visiting the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC.
How serendipitous for her to come across a beautiful portrait of Carver Center’s namesake, George Washington Carver. It was dated 1942. We found the exhibition label next to the portrait so impactful.

Born into slavery, George Washington Carver overcame the obstacles of slender means and racial discrimination to seek an education. He believed that "when you can do the common things of life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world." These words, coupled with his lifelong goal to help poor black farmers trapped in sharecropping and dependency on cotton as a crop, pervaded his work at Alabama's Tuskegee Institute,
where he was director of agricultural teaching and research for nearly forty years.
WE WILL BE DANCING TO THE SOUNDS OF TRIBECA RHYTHM NEXT SATURDAY

We have a limited number of tickets available for our 80th on Saturday, April 22nd at the Westchester Country Club. It's going to be a memorable night of great music, delicious dining, and impactful storytelling about our lasting legacy in Port Chester.

We are honored to present our 2023 Sister Rosemary Sheehan Award to local resident, Maureen Gomez, who has enriched the lives of so many community members.
