Everything has its time
I will extol the Lord at all times;
his praise will always be on my lips.
I will glory in the Lord;
let the afflicted hear and rejoice.
Glorify the Lord with me;
let us exalt his name together.
Psalms 34:1-3
October marked our 20th anniversary. The story of Misión Peniel—as a ministry among farmworkers—began in a very simple and humble way: as a street-based ministry. Although things have changed over the years, such as renting a permanent space for our work, we have always strived to maintain those core values of simplicity and humility.
Responding to the diverse needs of the community has been an ongoing challenge. The social dynamics among farmworkers are complex and historically fraught with injustice. Yet, with your support, we have achieved significant milestones—for which we thank God, the source of all blessings.
However, we have decided not to celebrate our first 20 years in the traditional way, out of respect and solidarity with the community we serve, a community that has welcomed and sheltered us all these years. It is no secret that this time has been incredibly difficult and painful for many families and individuals. We do not feel it is appropriate to celebrate unless all Immokalee community members can feel completely welcome and safe. We will hold off on the celebration until the right moment arrives.
What we want today is invite you to share in our joy and our gratitude to God. And for anyone who may wish to offer a special gift for the 20th Anniversary to support us move forward into the next twenty years, we suggest giving in multiples of 20.
