Where We've Been... Where We're Going

Since our first gathering on February 6th, Larchmont Avenue Church has now opened its doors for six timely and relevant community conversations:

  • Andrea Raynor, a chaplain at Ground Zero, discussed grief and traumatic response.
  • John Delfs of Good Wolf shared fascinating details on the physiology of the brain and how neurological science is being used to help at-risk teens in our community.
  • Andrea Markowitz from the Cancer Support Community explored the blessings and challenges of caregiving, something that many of us are experiencing firsthand.
  • Reuters journalist Helen Coster shared sage advice on how we can stay calm and balanced "in a time of non-stop news."
  • Carrie Newcomer led a "spiritual but not religious" musical conversation about peace, kindness, inclusion, and love; and
  • SoHyun Bae explored the spirituality of art in a presentation entitled "Painting as Prayer."

As we hoped, these wide-ranging conversations have drawn new people to Larchmont Avenue Church, helped us engage topics that are deeply relevant to life in our time, and given us new opportunities to connect with each other on a human level. These goals are foundational to the SEEKERS program, and we are grateful to all of you who have participated in one or more of these gatherings.

Looking ahead, we are excited that two additional speakers will be coming soon:

On Thursday, November 13th, author Joseph Holland will lead a discussion about the importance of virtue in our civic life. Using key figures from American history, he will lift up positive examples of morality and character that both inspire and guide; and

Coming in January, crowd favorite and local celebrity Rabbi Jeff Sirkman will start the new year off on a wonderful note.

If you have not experienced SEEKERS for yourself, the time has never been better to jump into some vital conversations and good fellowship with your LAC family and the larger community. We hope to see you there!

Blessings and peace,
