I write to you today in the middle of one of the most tumultuous years in Holy Spirit’s nearly 100 year history. Battling through a global pandemic that forced the shutdown of all schools across the country last March, we have kept fighting. Holy Spirit faced the same questions on reopening as every school for the 2020-21 school year: hybrid, remote, or in person. Holy Spirit reopened for classes in September for all students, five days a week. We were able to welcome students to campus safely through an arduous process that required massive preparation, and depended on the adaptability of our teachers, students, parents, and administrators in an ever changing landscape; one that nobody could have predicted.

I could not be prouder of the way Holy Spirit has handled this unprecedented situation. In a brief amount of time, we had to prepare to open in a way that would keep students and staff safe but would maintain our curricular standards so that our students could be on campus and thrive. And they are thriving. We have provided all the necessary resources, including PPE, technology, health screenings, and much much more. To do that, we had to rearrange resources and spend unbudgeted money. This is money well spent for our students, but these were unexpected costs. We need your help now, more than ever.

Beyond the challenges of 2020 to Holy Spirit, we have witnessed two of our neighboring Catholic schools have to claw and fight to keep their doors open. As we approach our school’s remarkable Centennial birthday, our goal is to never be in that position. When you think about where you donate, please know that every dollar donated to Holy Spirit High School goes directly to educating the mind, body, and spirit of each and every student in our building. If you give to Holy Spirit, your money stays at Holy Spirit.

I realize that each of us feels the struggles of the past eight months. I realize that giving in this time is a hard ask. But I also realize that everyone in our community knows how important it is to support Holy Spirit High School at this time. We have adapted to a pandemic that has rocked this nation to its core. We have adjusted our procedures and protocols to be in compliance with every directive that comes down from our leadership. And we have overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles to keep our students safe and learning, where many other schools have deemed that task impossible. This is the Spartan Way and we take a tremendous amount of pride in the fact that we continue to grind every single day.

Through our faith, we are reminded of Isaiah 41:13, “For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, ‘Do not fear; I will help you." We are battling, we are persevering, and our success so far has been through our community, through our common work, and I am asking you to join with us. I am asking for your consideration. We at Holy Spirit know that we cannot do what we do without your help. You are vital to our wellbeing, to our success.
