Chamber Connection

April 2024

Dear Chamber,

Many of you joined us yesterday as we welcomed EOED Secretary Yvonne Hao, Undersecretary Ashley Stolba, Easthampton Mayor Nicole LaChapelle, and Kristen Elechko, Governor Healey's Western Massachusetts Director, for a listening session followed by site visits to Chamber businesses located within walking distance of our office in Easthampton. The room, filled to capacity with small business owners, Corporate sponsors, board members, and Chamber supporters, buzzed with excitement and hope for the opportunities that lie ahead for small businesses in our Commonwealth.

The lifeblood of our work is connection. In very practical terms, we connect businesses to tangible resources that make growth possible. But there's another level of connection that is paramount to our ability to serve Chamber members effectively: the shared experiences that weave us together in a beautifully diverse tapestry strengthened by common threads.

Because we are a Chamber whose membership qualification is predicated upon an affinity of identity rather than geography, industry, or size, we are uniquely positioned to amplify a tradition that has carried our community through the many challenges we've needed to face: our steadfast commitment to supporting one another. There are countless examples of remarkably successful Chamber-to-Chamber collaborations: Colorful Resilience and Skytop Digital Services. Radiate Consulting, Tomo360, and Lollie Videography. John Walsh and countless members who have received his support with COMMBUYS. ShanHair and Wilder Strategies. Sage Meadow Farm and Oxbow Design Build. The list goes on (and on!).

We were thrilled to share some of our work with Secretary Hao, Undersecretary Stolba, Kristen Elechko, and Mayor LaChapelle, and we are thankful to each and every one of you for being an integral part of what makes our Chamber great. As we gear up for the busy weeks ahead of Pride Month, we hope to see - and support - you as we work together to create opportunity, increase resources, and improve outcomes for the LGBTQ+ community in Massachusetts.

With gratitude,

Thaís De Marco

Deputy Director

MALGBTCC BUSINESS GUIDE TO PRIDE

Thank you to everyone who joined us this month to celebrate the launch of the MALGBTCC Business Guide to Pride! This event featured a panel discussion spotlighting Pride organizers, educators, and our vibrant local community. In addition to our brilliant panelists, we would also like to thank our event sponsor and host, Salvatore’s Riverwalk in Lawrence, a proud LGBTQ-owned business and valued member of our Chamber.

The MALGBTCC Business Guide to Pride serves as a vital resource aimed at fostering inclusive workplaces and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights within the business community. By providing actionable insights, best practices, and guidance, this guide empowers businesses to cultivate environments that embrace diversity, equity, and inclusion year-round, ensuring that Pride celebrations extend beyond June and become ingrained in the fabric of organizational culture.

This guide owes its existence to the resolute commitment of Clare Thomsen (she/her), who has served as the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce's Graduate Research Fellow since September 2022. Clare's dedication and profound expertise have played a pivotal role in transforming vision into reality, making this guide a beacon of inclusivity and advocacy. Clare moderated our launch event’s panel.

We encourage you to share the MALGBTCC Business Guide to Pride with your network to amplify the guide’s mission in fostering inclusivity and allyship during Pride Month and beyond!

SECRETARY HAO IN WESTERN MASS

We had the honor of hosting Secretary Yvonne Hao from the Healey-Driscoll administration at our Western Massachusetts office in Easthampton. This event, held on April 29th, 2024, brought together members of the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce for an inspiring and impactful gathering.

Highlights of the event included a compelling keynote address by Secretary Hao, who shared insights and perspectives on the future of LGBTQ+ businesses in Western Massachusetts. Attendees also had the opportunity to hear from special guests Mayor Nicole LaChapelle of Easthampton, Undersecretary Ashley Stolba, Western Massachusetts Director Kristen Elechko, and Representative Daniel Carey, further enriching the dialogue and fostering connections within the community.

One of the event's key moments was the community dialogue session, where Chamber members engaged in a dynamic Q&A session with Secretary Hao, discussing pressing issues and sharing their experiences and perspectives. Additionally, a showcase video highlighting Chamber members who received the Empower Digital and Biz-M-Power grants underscored the Chamber's commitment to supporting LGBTQ+ businesses and fostering economic empowerment.

The event was a resounding success, bringing together stakeholders, advocates, and allies to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and progress within the LGBTQ+ business community in Western Massachusetts. We are grateful to Secretary Yvonne Hao, Mayor Nicole LaChapelle, and all attendees for their participation and contributions to this meaningful event.

Stay tuned for more updates and opportunities to engage with the Massachusetts LGBT Chamber of Commerce as we continue to champion LGBTQ+ businesses and advance equality and economic empowerment for all.
