Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

After Pope Leo XIV had surgery to remove a cancerous nodule from his lung, he returned to the Vatican last Saturday. Then at the Angelus on Sunday, he thanked everyone who had prayed for him. “I have truly felt your support. Thank you!”

One thing he said has stayed with me. He told us that his illness had given him a new sense of closeness with everyone who lives with sickness or frailty.

This is how the Lord so often works. He does not take our suffering away from us, but he lets it open our hearts to one another.

The Holy Father’s words remind us of the many in our own parish who are ill, recovering, homebound, or caring for someone they love. They also remind us of the doctors, nurses, and caregivers among us who do the work of healing every day.

He says that he will return to his duties gradually, relying on God’s help and on our prayers. So let us keep praying for him: for his full recovery, for strength in his ministry, and for wisdom as he shepherds the Church. And as we pray for him, let us also remember the sick of our own community. Perhaps this week you could call or visit someone who is unwell, or simply tell them they are in your prayers.

Thank you for being a parish that prays. It matters more than we know.

Peace and blessings,

Father Gil

P.S. We'll be praying in a special way for our beloved deceased on All Souls' Day on November 2nd.

Our Schola Cantorum, under the direction of Dr. Joung-A Monica Yum, will accompany our prayers with Maurice Duruflé’s beautiful Requiem, Op. 9.

You may Light a Candle in memory of someone you have lost. The name of your beloved will be inscribed on the candle and placed around the altar. All the names on the candles will be called out in prayer during Mass. To dedicate a candle, use the QR code in the announcement below or by sending an email to the Parish Office.
