Market Vendor Spotlight

Oakdale Farms Country Barn & Garden Shop.

61 Wheaton Avenue

Rehoboth, MA 02769

Oakdale Farms is a 6th generation working horticulture and chicken farm in Southeastern Massachusetts. Our farm produces food for the local community through venues such as grocery stores, wholesalers, farmers markets, CSA farm shares, home delivery, and our own Country Barn & Garden Shop.

Farming is our family tradition.

Our farm dates all the way back to 1918 when Charles and Etta Pray started a dairy farm on the land that we still call home. In 1952, the farm was passed down to their son, Richard Kenneth, Sr. Soon after their wedding in 1966, Richard Kenneth, Jr. and Marie Pray purchased a section of the family farm to start their own business. That year, Oakdale Farms was born.

Before becoming a Pray, Marie grew up in Dighton, MA on her parents' vegetable farm, Lane Gardens. She inherited her father's green thumb and knack for business. Combined with Richard's diligent work ethic, Oakdale Farms was destined for success as a vegetable and horticulture farm.

Over 50 years later and Richard and Marie have yet to retire! You'll still see Richard fixing tractors by the packing barn and Marie catering to her herbs in the greenhouse. In 2019, ownership and farming was officially passed down to their daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Michael Smith.

Oakdale Farms practices safe and environmentally friendly farming. Chemicals are not used in the growing process. Natural compost fertilizer is used to enrich the soil. The selection of seeds and plant starts consists of heirloom, organic, and untreated varieties.

Big Bear Cafe & Espresso Bar

3 Eastern Ave, Dedham Square

An independent, locally-owned café, Big Bear opened in April of 2016 in Dedham Square, Dedham's historic downtown, with three main aspirations: To serve outstanding coffee and tea drinks, to create fresh, flavorful and unique foods, and to provide friendly & knowledgeable service to every customer; all in an inviting and cozy space.

Big Bear is owned by Dedham resident, Donna Menna, who, after a career working for several prominent restauranteurs, including celebrity chef, Todd English, fulfilled a long time dream of opening her own place.

Donna and her fantastic staff work daily to get it right, by providing a welcoming atmosphere, and making every effort to ensure that every customer loves their Big Bear experience.

In a short time, Big Bear has become a customer favorite, and a real part of the local community, as partner, sponsor and contributor to local fundraising events for area non-profit organizations, Dedham's schools and youth sports leagues.
