Matthew 5:1-12 "The Beatitudes: List and Verse Meaning Explained"
The Beatitudes, found in the Gospel of Matthew (5:3-12), are a set of teachings delivered by Jesus Christ during the Sermon on the Mount. These verses outline a series of blessings highlighting the qualities and attitudes valued in the Kingdom of Heaven. "Beatitudes" is derived from the Latin word "beatus," meaning blessed or happy. Each Beatitude begins with "Blessed are," followed by describing a specific virtue or circumstance that leads to divine favor.
The Eight Beatitudes
Jesus had just begun His ministry. After numerous healings, demon extractions, miracles, and teachings, the Son of Man had gained an enormous following. A crowd of people from all over Judea, Jerusalem, Tyre, and Sidon flocked around him in hopes to be touched by Jesus’s healing power—which literally flowed from Him (Luke 6:17-19).
When Jesus saw the crowds, He went to a nearby mountainside and prayed all day and night. When morning came, He called his disciples to him and designated twelve of them as apostles (Luke 6:13). The hordes of followers still clamored for Jesus’s attention, so He gathered His disciples, sat them down on the mountainside, and began teaching them within the hearing of the masses (Matthew 5:1,2).
Jesus began His teaching with eight statements of correlating blessing, instruction, and promise, which have come to be known as the beatitudes. Here’s a brief summary of each of Jesus’s powerful declarations:

This issue's focus is the Ministry of Care, which brings the care of our parish to those who cannot easily join us. The Ministry of Care brings Holy Communion, prayer, companionship, and pastoral care to parishioners who are homebound, hospitalized, or otherwise unable to participate regularly in Mass.

Thank you for showing up and showing out. We demonstrated the power of coming together across borders, faiths, and races.
At least 1,941 BUILD leaders from 110 congregations, non-profits, neighborhoods, and schools across Baltimore City and Baltimore County came together on Monday at Morning Star Baptist Church in Woodlawn and got commitments around criminal justice, immigration, housing, and local issues from key state and local candidates and officials.
We were energized by the Miracle City Church Drum Corps, heard stories from BUILD leaders, and ensured that our issues will be our public officials' priorities.
If you missed it, you can watch the livestream on our Facebook page.
The press was there to cover it all.

Ministry Opportunity
| | |
St. Ignatius will hold a one-hour service event on Sunday, November 8, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on the 3rd floor.
Our PREP has been spearheading a Faith in Action project to benefit the Missionaries of Charity in Haiti. The Missionaries use cloth diapers exclusively at their orphanage, and St. Ignatius PREP has been gathering the materials needed to make them. They hope to sew the diapers and ship them in November, but additional volunteers may be needed to complete the project. If you sew or, better yet, own a portable sewing machine, we could use your help!
If your interested in participating, please click the button below or use the QR Code.
This Respect Life project responds to the needs of our missionaries and sends a little love to these infant disciples of Jesus.
For more information, contact our secretary, Erin Dillenbeck, at secretary@st-ignatius.net.

THE BURIAL OF ASHES
The Archdiocese of Baltimore provides a final resting place for those who are cremated but not buried. Since cremation has become a more accepted practice, more families are choosing cremation though many are not choosing burial at the time of cremation. As years and decades pass, the next generation inherit the urns of their grandparents and great grandparents, increasing the incidents of the urns being misplaced and forgotten. The ministry is also for the recently deceased. The Ministry of the 14th Station of the Cross buries the deceased in sacred ground allowing the deceased to rest in peace. There is a minimal fee of $350 for the burial. The burial occurs annually in November (Month of All Souls). The urns are placed in one vault and buried. This opportunity also provides families peace of mind, as they now know where their family member is perpetually buried. The burial is at Holy Cross Cemetery in Anne Arundel County.

Our Current Poor Box Collection: Vulnerable Families in Crisis
Our current Poor Box Contributions will enable us to assist vulnerable families in crisis. This initiative provides small funds for direct requests for food money, assistance with utilities, and emergency shelter.
If you wish to contribute, a Poor Box is located in the Narthex at the bottom of the choir loft stairs, as well as in The Chapel of Peter Claver.
Your cheerful generosity makes such a difference!
