Artwork by Alice Matzkin
Sometimes art can reveal truths that words cannot. Portrait painter and writer, Alice Matzkin and her sculptor and writer husband, Richard, watched the evolving changes in their face, body, and mind as they have grown older. Fearful and curious, the couple has embarked on a 15-year quest to explore their aging through their art and contemplations.

Join the Matzkins for a profusely illustrated presentation that will introduce topics such as discovering the inner beauty of our older face; the joys and advantages of mature love; finding acceptance and appreciation of the changes in our aging bodies; coming to peace with parents in their old age and death, and experiencing deep introspection about their own death and the preciousness of life. Through their art, the Matzkins have personally experienced how aging can be a time of ripening and harvest, rather than stagnation and despair.

Painter Alice Matzkin has two paintings in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution, one of which is on permanent exhibit, and her portrait of Chelsea Clinton, which resided in the Clinton White House and currently hangs in the Clinton’s private quarters. Alice has also been a featured guest on the Oprah television program.

Richard Matzkin has a magnificent relationship with his wife Alice. He is a former men’s group leader, director of a domestic violence program, program director of a psychiatric hospital, and meditation teacher. He is also an accomplished sculptor and jazz drummer and has had numerous exhibits and his sculptures in collections throughout the United States.

Their works feature well-known people such as feminist Betty Friedan and potter Beatrice Wood, as well as friends, neighbors, relatives, and themselves. Drawing on their own experiences and the wisdom of older mentors, they demonstrate that the elder years can be a time of growth and wisdom rather than stagnation and loss

Together Alice and Richard have written the dual award-winning book, THE ART OF AGING: Celebrating the Authentic Aging Self. Richard has also authored written LOVING PROMISES: The Master Class for Creating Magnificent Relationship, and MANIFESTO: A Call For Men to Become Warriors for Kindness. His is preparing to publish Becoming Love-ABLE: How A Man Can Grow to Become a More Loving Partner, and LOVE AND TIME. Click here to visit their website.
