Groundbreaking Set for New Tom Thumb Grocery Store

The Gateway Park developers plan to break ground on the new Tom Thumb grocery store on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 3:30 p.m.

Last spring, the Sunnyvale Town Council approved an economic development incentive for a Tom Thumb store to be built at the Gateway Park retail center on Belt Line Road and Town East Boulevard.

The grocery store will be a part of a $120 million development at Gateway Park that spans 240,000 square feet. This development aims to include additional retail stores, restaurants, and athletic facilities.

“The Town Council is thrilled to provide our residents with this investment,” said Mayor Saji George, who also serves as the Chair of the Town’s 4B Economic Development Corporation. “Our goal when looking to attract and retain businesses is to ensure that they align with our community’s essential needs and identity. We hope this development is put to great use as we look to further improve our quality of life.”

Tom Thumb is breaking ground on two additional stores in North Texas the same day.

Thursday, Nov. 21 | 6 - 7:30 p.m. | Sunnyvale Town Hall

Please provide your input as the Town of Sunnyvale develops plans for improvements at Jobson and Samuell Farm North Parks.

The Town will host a public input meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 at Sunnyvale Town Hall, 127 N. Collins Road. During the meeting, you can learn more about recommendations for these two parks made as part of the 2021 Parks Master Plan and recent public surveys that were completed this summer. Proposed concept plans will be presented, and we would really like your insights for future park development.

Additional sports fields, playgrounds, and trails could be options for future improvements. Watch for additional public input opportunities in mid-December, which will result in a final plan. Construction is expected to begin in mid-to-late 2025.
