The Orphan's Revenge
Marvel-inspired feature films all got their start from the popular melodramas of the 1800s with the heroine, hero and dastardly villain. Our selfless heroine sacrifices herself to keep the orphanage from being recycled into a saloon. And all this fun is wrapped in a musical format! It is tongue-planted- ferociously-in-cheek with music that is imminently hummable and lyrics that are wickedly whip smart. More>>

What incredible performances by these inventive, inspired actors. Such swagger, such grace, such a gorgeous sense of place and time and connection from each and every one of them. Truly, this play has a magical cast and they fit together so perfectly to tell this story, to give us this lesson about a piano. DIVA The Play
Vivienne Powell a master at transporting us into the life of a fading icon. She is fragile and stubborn and completely real. I cannot recommend this astonishing heartrending performance strongly enough. We are treated to some of the most glorious vocal moments I have ever experienced in a theatre. Vivienne Powell as Louisa McCrae gifts her audience with her sublimely fluid and deeply moving voice. Review>>

Crevasse
It’s not an exaggeration when I tell you that Crevasse is one of the finest plays I have seen. It is absolutely extraordinary in fact, and Leo Marks and Ann Nobel are phenomenal. How is it possible for a person to so totally dissolve into a character that when they become another in front of your very eyes they seem to be two completely separate entities? They are both utterly mesmerizing in all their roles. Review>>

BC Ballet
November 23
Two of The Soraya’s most popular choreographers will return, with works performed by The Soraya’s resident dance company. The evening will include "Chamber"* and "Silent Tides"* by Ballet BC’s Artistic Director Medhi Walerski, and Crystal Pite's "Frontier,” which originally premiered at Netherlands Dance Theater and was danced by Walerski who describes the work as, “epic...an experimentation of the relationship between light and shadows," Previously at The Soraya in 2022, Pite received acclaim for “The Statement," her humorous and biting creation around a conference table. Walerski’s “Chamber,” also created for Netherland’s Dance Theater, premiered in 2013, a response to the centenary of “Rite of Spring,” and possesses many of the ritualistic and tribal qualities of Stravinsky’s and Diaghilev’s original groundbreaking masterpiece. These performances mark Ballet BC's fourth visit to The Soraya, dating back to the 2019 performances of “Romeo + Juliet.” *Performance contains partial nudity. More>>
