Changes to Florida AIDS Drug Assistance Program

The Florida Department of Health has announced abrupt, life-endangering changes to the state’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), shifting coverage to directly provide HIV medications only for people at or below 130% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).

HIVMA is organizing a meeting on Tues., Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. EST for HIV healthcare professionals in Florida to discuss the drastic cuts and formulary changes to the Florida AIDS Drug Assistance Program announced by the Florida Department of Health late last week and how we as a community can advocate to stop the cuts and mitigate harm to people with HIV.

"Nurses are often the backbone of continuity in HIV care. When access to treatment is destabilized, it creates new barriers to care and pushes administrative decisions into clinical spaces, increasing complexity for care teams, and instability for patients. These disruptions strain an already stretched workforce and erode the trust that nurses and other front-line providers have built over years of patient-centered care. This moment calls for urgent action to protect continuity of treatment and the public health progress sustained through evidence-based HIV care," said Shey Thorn, DrPH, MPH, ANAC Executive Director.

ANAC supports IAPAC’s call to action and encourages our members to review their statement and consider ways to engage in advocacy efforts to protect continuity of HIV care.
