2018 TOP ACHIEVEMENTS
Here are just a few of the highlights from 2018
Sometimes we tend to forget how much work happens in the last 365 days so this a great time to reflect on this past year and look over what happened! 
CQA
The biggest moment of 2018 for Bear and the Flower Farm was receiving our CQA Certification in March. So much time and effort was put into making this happen and not only are we proud to be the first of our kind, but also changing the future of outdoor farming for all Canadian farmers.
Expanding into BC
In the early part of 2018 we finally made the jump to expand our business in a substantial way.
After we finished discussions with Johnstons out of Chilliwack we managed to get our first load of hogs out to BC in early spring. This year in 2019 we are setting big goals for our BC market and its pretty exciting!
Safe Transport
We had to go back to school to learn about taking the piggies off the farm. It's one thing to have the animals loaded first thing in the morning and taking them just down the road, and another sending them 10 hours away. So we decided to educate ourselves about long haul shipping of animals and became certified in safe animal transport! Now we ship our animals every 2 weeks to BC with no issues. The research really is true that pigs do much better on longer trips then short trips and is far less stress on them! 
2018 IMPORTANT LETTER
Martin Shields MP
In 2016 we hosted an Alberta Open Farm Day and it was then that we first met our MP Martin Shields. This is past year we received a letter from Mr. Shields congratulating us on our CQA certification!
Having a Member of Parliament take a moment from his busy schedule to acknowledge our success is a huge honour!
Thank you Mr. Shields. 
2018 NOTEWORTHY TOURS
UNA Pizza & Bread and Circus
Having visitors to the farm is such an honour and we try to make their visit memorable, however Una pizza ended up impacting us with Chef Kayle's kindness and easy going attitude. Since our tour we ship whole animals to Chef weekly, who then uses the whole thing - every little bit! True farm to fork. Thank you for the support Una Pizza and Bread and Circus.
Banff Gondola & Sky Bistro
Now this was a great morning back in June! Chef Scott and his kitchen team of 15 came for a breakfast sandwich and a walk amongst the piggies. With a full camera crew this is one of our top favourite videos of the farm. We had a great time. The Banff Gondola is without a doubt the most picturesque restaurant our pork is featured in! If you get a chance to dine at the panoramic 7,500 ft. summit restaurant we highly recommend!
OEB FARM TOUR
If there is a video to make you tear up- its this OEB video. 
It all started with a handshake between Mauro+Christopher +Jessica in early January of 2018, and since then we have supplied him all the pork for his growing franchise of restaurants.
This was without a doubt the biggest event for Bear and the Flower in 2018! To host the entire OEB staff at the farm, plus the catering and video crews! Mauro is an inspiration to the Fasoli's and a friend. He is dedicated, true to his word, and has a passion for food. If you have not been to OEB make the trip!
Calgary Stampede Tour
Its not everyday you get a visit from Derek Dale the executive chef from the one and only Calgary Stampede.
This is one busy guy! But he brought 30 of his staff just to come and visit us!
We featured our stadium dog and chatted about pig farming. We are happy to say our pork is featured at the Saddledome, and we will keep you updated about the 2019 Calgary Stampede and where you can find us! Thank you to Derek and your team!
Will from Meuwly's in Edmonton stopped by for a visit!
Meuwlys/Secret Meat Club came to do a video shoot out at the farm.
They opened up shop in June!

2018 ON THE FARM
Flooding

Sunday April 22 will be a date to remember!
The flooding in our area made news headlines and caused a bit of an emergency at the farm!
But not to worry it only stressed out Christopher and Jessica- the pigs loved it!
While we put up fences, built berms and struggled to hold the water back, the pigs played in the water.
Our newest family member.

After the loss of Christopher and Jessica's two beloved cats in June, they decided to get a dog. A beautiful black lab named Luma!
A true farm doggy who can open the office door and loves to sit in the doorway
watching Christopher work.
She doesn't care if the staff freeze, as long as she can see her dad!
Equipment Purchase

Purchasing a new weight scale was really important to the growth of our business in 2018. This high tech gadget sorts the pigs by weight and tracks our inventory. It will event paint them different colours according to weight! Fancy!
Farm Expansion
The expansion we've been dreaming of began this year. We knew what we wanted, but it was just a matter of time to grow the business big enough to warrant the investment. And so the first hole was dug almost on our 3rd anniversary of business. Gas and water lines, 19 new waterers, 5 new light poles, and hundreds of fence posts pounded into the ground.

COCHON555

We had an amazing time at the Cochon 555 event in beautiful Banff, Alberta this past May. It was the first Cochon Event in Canada and a huge hit. With nearly 700 people sampling 5 heritage breed pigs. Check out this article by our biggest fan Bernice from Dish in the Kitchen!
