Art from another part of the world.....

Our manager, Heather Swart, just got back from visiting Europe!

One of the cities she visited was Amsterdam, and boy did she see some art and amazing architecture!

There were 3 main museums she visited - Rijksmuseum (https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/visit), Van Gogh Museum (https://www.vangoghmuseum.nl/en), and Rembrandthuis (https://www.rembrandthuis.nl/en/).

The Rijksmuseum houses a variety of Dutch artists, such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Van Gogh, along with so many artifacts from the Netherlands' history.

The two main pieces Heather was excited to see was Rembrandt's "The Night Watch," which sadly was blocked off from viewing closer, but is undergoing 'Operation Night Watch (https://www.rijksmuseum.nl/en/whats-on/exhibitions/operation-night-watch).' The other piece was Vermeer's "The Milkmaid."

In addition, she got to view the Great Hall, which houses inlaid mosaics, stained glass windows, and walls covered with painted tableaux.

At the Van Gogh Museum, Heather may have gotten a little misty-eyed as she viewed some of her favorite paintings. She saw Van Gogh's many self portraits (he painted over 35), "Sunflowers," "Almond Blossom," "The Bedroom," and so many more. After studying these pieces for so many years, Heather just felt so lucky to be able to finally view them in person.

The last museum she visited was Rembrandt's house. There she saw where he received guests and collectors, the kitchen where his maid slept, and his vast collection of items he studied for each piece he painted. The most exciting part was seeing his large studio with vast windows to let in the most wonderful light. In this room she also saw his original painter's palette and mixing jars, since he mixed all his paints by hand. At the very top floor of the house (there were roughly 5 floors, at least that's what it felt like) this was the apprentice's studios and each little nook was based on what level or what step the apprentice was at in their apprenticeship with Rembrandt.

All in all, Heather thoroughly enjoyed her trip and she can't wait to visit more art museums in other countries in the future.

As always stop on into Frame of Mind for all your Custom Framing, Art supplies and more! We look forward to seeing you.
