Colleagues,
As we prepare for another academic year on our Hill, I want to extend my deepest appreciation for the work you've done throughout the summer and the commitment you demonstrate each day to our students and to WKU’s mission. The start of a new academic year brings with it fresh opportunities to change lives, and I’m grateful to begin another semester with each of you.
Thank you for attending our annual Faculty and Staff Convocation this morning as we reflected on our recent accomplishments and highlighted our work ahead this year. I’d like to extend a special congratulations to Bryson Davis, recipient of this year’s Spirit of WKU award. I appreciate his dedication to our students and outstanding service to our university. If you weren’t able to attend, you can read a copy of my remarks at wku.edu/convocation.
Many of our newest Hilltoppers have already arrived on our Hill for M.A.S.T.E.R. Plan. This long-standing tradition plays an essential role in helping incoming students build community, become familiar with our campus and embrace WKU traditions. I want to thank the many faculty and staff members who volunteered as Cluster Facilitators; your engagement makes a real difference.
I look forward to gathering as a campus community this Friday, August 15, at 5:30 p.m. on South Lawn for Topper Fest and Fan Fest – an evening of food, music, games and fun for the whole family. Enjoy food trucks and Aramark offerings, activities for all ages, autograph sessions with Hilltopper student athletes, live music by The Downtown Band, fireworks at dark and more. WKU faculty and staff will receive two free drink tickets with a valid WKU ID. Full event details are available at wku.edu/topperfest. Then, as we launch the term on Monday, Augusth 18, I encourage all faculty and staff members to participate in our We Wear Red. We Show Up. campaign by wearing your red apparel, demonstrating clearly our second-to-none school spirit on our students’ first day!
