From The Pastor's Desk:
With gratitude and excitement I thank God for my new call as pastor of Lord of Life!
I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome I and my family have received in our first weeks here at Lord of Life. We are thankful for the prayers, introductions, conversations, and many other signs of joyful welcome. My office door bears many of the beautiful welcome cards and drawings from some of the children of Lord of Life and Grace Place!
I was particularly touched by the congregation’s ordination gift of a green pastor’s stole! It was made by the Quilt Ministry group and presented to me on Sunday, October 18th - the day I was ordained. It is beautiful and clearly made with great skill and dedication. Thank you to all who were a part of this very special gift. I look forward to wearing it for many years to come both as a sign of my calling to serve God’s people as pastor and as a reminder of the generosity of the people of Lord of Life.
I have loved the beginnings of my work with the wonderful staff and volunteer leaders at Lord of Life. In less than a month I have already found joy in leading worship, learning with the adult Bible study group, shared food and friendship with the Lunch Bunch, shared popcorn and prayer with our confirmation students, handed out candy and bananas to the trunk-or-treat kids, made messy tacos with the 4th & 5th graders, and celebrated the 1st Holy Communion with Keshav and Theo (with Julia on the way!). I can’t wait for all of the serving, learning, exploring, playing, praying, eating, and singing to come!
We know that the Spirit will continue to knit together this beloved community of faith with grace and love. I am eager to experience God’s loving presence in all the seasons of our lives together and explore new ways we are called to love our neighbor as we work for God’s justice and peace in our own lives and in all the world!
I invite you to share with me your stories of God showing up in your lives. Please feel free to reach out to me as your pastor and co-equal member of the body of Christ. May we continue to look forward to living and serving as God’s people gathered together at Lord of Life.
In God’s peace,
Pastor Jason Reed

This Month's Focus:
Lord Of Life’s Bookkeeper
As you will recall, our long-time Treasurer, Debbie Chromeck, retired from dealing with the money matters of the church in January. In order to keep the business side of the church up and running, your Church Council chose to hire a bookkeeper to pay our staff and process the invoices received by the church.
Brenda Hartmann has been with us at Lord of Life since February 1st. Brenda lives in Bordentown, NJ. She travels to the church once a week to process paperwork – usually on Sunday morning. When you see her during the Sunday coffee hour time, please introduce yourself and say, "Hello." You can reach Brenda via email by clicking on the link below:

Attention All LOL Thrivent Members!
Turn Thrivent Benefits Into
Ministry Blessings!
Thrivent is a financial services organization that supports charitable organizations and churches. It is also the current mortgage holder for Lord of Life Lutheran Church. Many church members have Thrivent financial products.
Through Thrivent Choice, eligible members can direct charitable funding to
organizations they care about. Lord of Life has received thousands of dollars through this program over the years.
The Thrivent Action Teams program provides up to $250 in seed money for approved fundraisers, educational events, and service projects. Eligible members may apply to lead up to two Action Teams each calendar year. With more than ten eligible members, Lord of Life could potentially access $5,000 or more annually to support ministry activities and community outreach. What a wonderful opportunity to expand our ministry!
To help maximize these resources, the Church Council has established a volunteer Thrivent Coordinator position. Cynthia Tait has volunteered to serve as our first coordinator. She will help ministries develop potential projects, guide members through the application process, and coordinate and celebrate our partnership with Thrivent.
Do you have qualifying Thrivent products? Please let Cynthia know! You may be able to help support Lord of Life’s ministries at no additional cost to you or the church. Contact Cynthia to learn more about Thrivent Choice and Action Teams.
Email: Cynthia@LordLife.us
Phone: (602) 708-6997
Together, we can make the most of our partnership with Thrivent and strengthen our ministry in the church and community!

Haiti Update
A Message From Penny Miller:
The civil unrest in Haiti, unfortunately, is still going on. The gangs have control which makes everyday life difficult and dangerous, but for twelve young women with a strong determination there is hope. They are hoping and praying for an opportunity to learn a trade, something that will help them feed their family and themselves.
The end of August, twelve students graduated from Penny Millers Sewing Academy in Mariani, Haiti. The students completed one full year of hands on learning. They can now create and sew children's clothing, skirts, and dresses.
Some have made handbags to match their outfits. They have an amazing talent and a strong desire to succeed given the opportunity.
The school has been operating for 15 years. Each year they receive a sewing kit to hold the tools they need. The kit includes scissors (large and small), tape measure, pins, needles, pin cushion, etc. This year I am asking for donations of these items to help defray the cost.
If you would like to help please leave the items in the basket in the giving room.
As always thank you for your help, support and prayers!

Sneaker Impact Collection Begins!
MORE Athletic Shoe Collection Ends!
We have chosen a new sneaker recycling program, Sneaker Impact, since the previous one, More Foundation, has closed.
We will still use the same collection box, but smaller boxes to ship the shoes. Sneaker Impact provides us with free FedEx shipment.
According to Sneaker Impact, all the reusable sneakers they collect are shipped outside of the United States, where they're eventually resold by mom-and-pop shops in the developing world in nations such as Haiti, Honduras, Guatemala, and Bolivia. They create micro-business opportunities.
Sneakers that are not shipped out for resale by Sneaker Impact are crushed and given a second life as foam, rubber, or textiles.
Donated sneakers at Lord of Life find a second life and are kept out of landfills.

November Health Focus:
Hearing Health
Protect This Important Body Sense
Hearing helps us communicate, connect with others, and enjoy everyday life. However, loud noise, aging, and certain health conditions can affect our hearing. This month, we focus on protecting our hearing by keeping headphone volumes at safe levels, taking breaks from noisy environments, and wearing earplugs or earmuffs around loud sounds. Learn the warning signs for hearing loss such as difficulty following conversations, frequently asking others to repeat themselves, or ringing in the ears. Regular hearing checks can help identify changes early.
Take action today: protect your ears, recognize the signs of hearing loss, and seek out professional hearing assessment, if indicated, and make hearing health a priority.
Stop by the Focus on Health Table in Fellowship Hall to learn more. The Stepping Stones to Health Committee encourages you to pick up our free monthly handouts and/or speak to one of our members, including Joan Molnar, Lu Hourihan, Janell Reich, Heather Cosper, Barbara Ma, or Cynthia Tait. Also, please share with anyone on our committee health topics you are interested in and/or consider joining our team.

Together we can improve our health and wellness through movement and exercise. These classes are free and open to all adults, so bring a friend and join us! The next sessions will be held at the church in Fellowship Hall on Tuesdays, November 3rd and 17th at 3:00 PM.

“Joy, compassion, a fun day, generosity, thankfulness, love, fulfilling, lifted, blessed.” Those are the words our Helping Hands crew used to describe their experience of helping to feed our sisters and brothers in Christ served by the Christian Caring Center. Thank you to all 19 of our sandwich makers, supply buyers, transporters, and financial supporters and to our whole Lord of Life family for your prayers and daily support of our church that enables all of our Social Ministry outreach!
The photos below are from our September 30th Helping Hands session. 192 sandwiches and a carload of donated items were delivered to the Christian Caring Center.
| | Here are photos from our October 28th session at which another 192 sandwiches were made and then delivered to the Christian Caring Center! | | |

Celebration
And
Blessing Of The Pets
Saturday, October 3rd
Arf, meow, chirp! This translates into the following:
Humans and their canine buddies had a great time on October 3rd during our Celebration and Blessing of the Pets held onsite at Lord of Life. Special thanks to
Tabernacle Animal Hospital (Dr. Sue Jarman and Lisa), Ohana Pet Sitting Service and Out of the Woods Animal Rescue (Ashelee), Coastal Pines K9 (Emily, Jess, and Melissa), Tri-State Canine Response Team (Traci), and our own Sara King with therapy dogs Max and Zelda. The Ohana Ukelele musicians (Janell, Barbara, Trish, Penny, and Judy) along with Rick Krause on keyboard, entertained those attending with a fun-filled program that featured animal songs including “How Much is That Doggie in the Window”
and many more. Thank you to Pastor Barry Scott for blessing the many canine friends present, photos of cats, and even a photo of a horse! We also appreciated the donation of pet food and supplies to Out of the Woods Animal Rescue. Together we are making life a little better for God’s beautiful creatures and, in return, they are enriching our lives!

Pastor Barry's
Last Service As Interim
Sunday, October 4th
Pastor Barry presided as our Interim Pastor at Sunday worship for the final time. Lord of Life thanked him for all he did with kind words, a gift, and a special cake at Coffee Hour.
Below a message to all from both Pastor Barry and Julie:
To our friends at Lord of Life Lutheran Church:
Julie and I thank you sincerely for the warm and kind sendoff you gave us on Sunday, October 4th! We were overwhelmed at the gracious words from Judy Lerner, Sue Dreisbach, and Rick Krause. We are surprised and thankful for your generous gifts, the beautiful “Tree Of Life”, the wonderful cake, and the loving hugs and words of so many friends! We are thankful for each and every one of you, and we look forward to the day when we return as active members of the church. Thanks once again!
Pastor Barry and Julie Scott

Ordination Sunday
Sunday, October 18th
This was a full day of activities for our new pastor and our Lord of Life family! At the 9:30 AM church service, Pastor Jason’s family was present to worship with us. Pastor’s friends, Larry Olson and Karol Baer, sang and led the Children’s Song. Later, they sang during the collection of the Offering. Many in our congregation know their professional name of Dakota Road and their music.
During the service, Church Council President, Bill Reich, presented Pastor Jason with a stole that was hand-made by members of our Quilting Ministry. This is a welcoming gift to him from our congregation.
After the church service, PEP hosted a Tailgate Coffee Fellowship Hour at which a variety of food was served and some football songs were sung led by Rick Krause.
The day’s activities concluded at Pastor Jason’s Ordination Service at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hainesport. Bishop Compton presided and was joined by Lutheran pastors from across the New Jersey Synod. May God bless Pastor Jason in his ministry and the congregation of Lord of Life

Church Annual
Financial Audit
Thursday, October 22nd
Each year, members of Lord of Lfe perform an audit of our financial records. Amounts of contributions recorded by tellers are matched against envelope numbers, teller records are matched with bank deposit statements, and payments written out are checked againsts vouchers requesting that payment for dollar amounts, proper authorization, and the financial ledger.
Thanks to Alan Dennision for leading the audit and to all those who volunteered to help!

Truck Or Treat
Saturday, October 24th
Church members decorated their cars in Halloween adornments and had sweet treats for our Lord of Life youth in our church parking lot. This provided a fun and safe Halloween event for them. Thanks to all our volunteers for their help in making our Trunk Or Treat possible!

Reformation
And
First Communion Sunday
Sunday, October 25th
Lutherans recognize the beginning of the Protestant Reformation each year on the Sunday on or before October 31st. The start day of the Reformation was October 31, 1517, which is the day on which Martin Luther posted his ninety-five theses to door of the cathedral in Wittenberg, Germany.
Each Reformation Sunday, we hang banners in the Sanctury stating three principles of the Reformation: Faith Alone, Grace Alone, and Scripture Alone. During our church service, our Celebration Handbells accompanied several hymns.
We also picked this special Sunday as First Communion Sunday for our youth. Keshav Bernhofer and Theodore Tucker were with their families as they received Holy Communion for the first time. May God be with them and bless them always!
