Youth Success Stories
from Madison County Working Solutions
#1 Youth completed a work experience and is earning $20.00/hr. He is now in the beginning stages of getting an id he needs in order to obtain his permit and then to receive drivers training. It’s nearly impossible for a 20 year-old to get ID when some of the originals have been lost. We’ve completed the first step; our staff was able to find a healthcare provider who would take the youth as a new patient. Staff assisted youth in setting up the appointment, even taking him to the appointment as he had no transportation. The youth now has a document from a primary care physician that he can use to obtain the necessary id to obtain his permit. The next step is to get into the Federal Building to get a new social security card.
#2 Youth is 22 years old and has his first job under a work experience. Youth reports that the work is fun.
#3 Young man living completely on his own finally gets a job after a year of not working through a work experience. He refuses to accept a “hand out”. Now the youth is able to purchase items for himself.
CONGRATULATIONS, YOUTH!!

RADAR Grant Participant Success!
This individual was referred to us by the Roofers Union. We were able to assist him with his first-year tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
As a result, RADAR was able to address the financial burden some individuals face when entering the Trades.
Since purchasing the needed materials, this individual has started his Apprenticeship and is on his way to becoming a Journeyman.
“I am blessed for the opportunity for RADAR to help me get the tools I needed to join the roofers union." the grant participant says. "I am grateful to the Roofer’s Union for taking the chance on me and giving me a different vision of what to do with my life. If I didn’t go through this I probably would still be at a job I do not like. Roofing is something I can make a good career with. I just want to be a good role model to the community and the people around me."
CONGRATULATIONS, RADAR GRANT PARTICIPANT!

BUSINESSES: WE CAN HELP YOU UPSKILL YOUR WORKFORCE
The Workforce Development Board of Herkimer, Madison & Oneida (WDB/HMO) has partnered with the NYCAN (NY College Apprenticeship Network) grant to reimburse on-the-job training costs for advanced manufacturing companies that have less than 50 employees and a registered apprentice program.
Wages can be reimbursed at 50% up to $25 an hour for six months of on-the-job training (OJT) with minimum paperwork. The undirected funding provides many benefits for small to medium-sized manufacturing companies and ensures the apprentice is trained in accordance with the company’s standards and procedures.
If you would like to know how your company can take advantage of this funding or know of a company that would benefit, please contact Meghan McBennett at mmcbennett@working-solutions.org.
