Weighted Ab Workout
w/ Janine
Yes, we called this "weighted," but if you don't have a traditional dumbbell, weight plate, etc. we've used a cast iron pan from the kitchen to get things done. Don't laugh, your abs will thank you later. Click here.
Core Workout w/ Sarah
A strong core will help you move better, improve your balance and stability, reduce your risk of injury, increase your power output, and improve your athletic performance. By focusing on your abdominal muscles, hips, glutes and back, this class is a must for anyone needing to strengthen the stabilizer muscles. Click here.
Yoga for Runners w/ Kristin
We call this course "for runners" because of the huge emphasis on aiding tight hips, legs and backs but this class is a game changer for all. Click here.
Workout of the Week
Working on your core strength doesn't just satisfy your desire to have a 6-pack or feel good in a swimsuit on vacation. Your core is responsible for stabilizing your entire body. A strong core helps with balance and to prevent falls, regardless of age. That doesn't mean you have to spend hours lying on a mat doing crunches either. Check out this quick workout that can be done from almost anywhere, weighted, or unweighted.

15-Min Core Fit
Grab a set of light weights, an ottoman or bench, and find a spot on the floor.
Repeat all exercises for 3 total sets:

Glute Bridge (Floor / Shoulders Elevated / Feet Elevated) (1 min)
  1. Lie face up on the floor, with your knees bent and feet flat on the ground. Keep your arms at your side with your palms down.
  2. Lift your hips off the ground until your knees, hips and shoulders form a straight line.
  3. Hold your bridged position for a couple of seconds before easing back down.
Weighted Deadbug (1 min)
  1. Lie on your back and extend your arms and legs toward the ceiling with weights in both hands.
  2. Lower your right leg and extend your left arm behind your head.
  3. Return to the starting position and repeat with the opposite arm and leg.
  4. Keep switching sides until the set is complete.
Side Plank Reach Under and Up (1 min each side)
  1. Lie on your side with your bottom elbow on the floor. Raise your hips so that they're off the ground and your body forms a straight line from your ankles to shoulders. Extend your top arm laterally, holding one light dumbbell, so that it is perpendicular to the floor.
  2. Reach under and past your hips with your top hand, keeping your torso stable. Then reverse motion back to starting position.
Elbow & Knee Pinned Hold (30 seconds each side)
  1. Lay flat on your back and come to a bicycle crunch position.
  2. Kick your left leg straight out. Pin your right elbow to your right knee. Hold for 30 seconds.
  3. Switch sides and kick your right leg straight out while pinning your left elbow to your left knee for 30 seconds.

May Ingredient Spotlight: Spring Greens
Grilled Mustard Greens w/ Kumquat Relish & Friend Garlic Quinoa

Ingredients:
  • ¼ cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1 medium shallot, peeled and finely minced
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 5 ounces extra-virgin olive oil
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbsp finely chopped herbs, such as chives and basil
  • 2 large heads radicchio, cut lengthwise into quarters, root ends intact
  • 4 heads endive, halved lengthwise, root ends intact
  • Extra-virgin olive oil, for brushing
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 to 5 small radishes, tops trimmed, very thinly sliced, for garnish
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese, for garnish

Directions:
To prepare vinaigrette, whisk together the vinegar, shallot, and honey together in a medium mixing bowl. While whisking vigorously, slowly drizzle the olive oil into the vinegar mixture until thoroughly incorporated. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Stir in chopped herbs and set aside.

Prepare a moderate charcoal fire, preheat a gas grill to medium, or heat a large grill pan over medium heat. Brush cut sides of radicchio and endive sections with olive oil using a silicone pastry brush. Using tongs, place radicchio and endive on grill and sear until lightly charred on all sides, about 1 to 2 minutes per side. Remove radicchio and endive from grill and place on a cutting board. Trim root ends and discard. Chop into 2-inch pieces and place in a large salad bowl with radish slices.

To serve, toss grilled greens and sliced radishes with enough balsamic vinaigrette to lightly coat. Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese over the salad and toss once more. Divide between four salad plates and serve immediately.
