A special invitation to join Windjammers at our Summer Meet this July in Gainesville, GA!

Saturday, July 19 from 9 am to 12 noon

Windjammers? What's that?

Circus marches are called "screamers" because they are traditionally so high, loud & fast! Circus Band members are often called "windjammers" because they jam so much wind into their instruments in the process of playing these screamers. Playing the circus requires incredible endurance & skills on your instrument.

Windjammers Unlimited is The Circus Music Historical Society whose mission is to Preserve, Educate and Perform music from the Golden Era of the American Circus.

Preservation: Our summer meet/convention is July 15-20. Musicians from other states will be coming in on the 15th and leaving on the 20th. Our rehearsals and recording sessions will be held in between those dates on Wed-Sat. We will read and record music including marches, galops, waltzes, serenades, overtures. Musicians will need to join Windjammers to participate in this part of the meet. We actually are actively recruiting members during these summer meets.

Educate:  There will be an educational outreach seminar on Saturday, July 19 from 9am-12noon.  These Saturday-morning-only participants do not need to join Windjammers to participate in this seminar. We plan to tell a little history and play some music.

What happens at Windjammers Conventions?

LOTS! Lots of Notes and Lots of Fun!

You'll enjoy playing over 60 historic circus music selections during the convention. We run through each piece once at tempo, maybe woodshed a couple of measures, then it's professionally recorded and becomes musical history of the circus.

You'll meet musicians from around the country who love to perform this fast-paced music!

You'll learn the history of each piece from the six conductors at the Summer Meet. PDFs of each piece will be emailed to you ahead of time.

A special Educational Outreach Session is planned for Saturday morning for Band Directors, Students and Local Community Band Members.

Saturday evening is our FREE big performance for the community at Smithgall Arts Pavilion -- with lots of circus-themed acts! Fun for the whole family!

And even with this busy musical schedule, there's also free time to network with your new circus band friends at the convention!
