Houston, we have a problem
|
"Houston, we have a problem."
and so does SWLA.
With our proximity and connections to Houston and the increase in covid-19 cases in our region, individual actions are necessary to bring the virus cases down and save lives and continue to do business with increased our capacity.
Texas Gov Gregg Abott has closed all bars and reduced capacity at restaurants: “As I said from the start, if the positivity rate rose above 10%, the State of Texas would take further action to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” said Governor Abbott. “At this time, it is clear that the rise in cases is largely driven by certain types of activities, including Texans congregating in bars. The actions in this executive order are essential to our mission to swiftly contain this virus and enhance public health. We want this to be as limited in duration as possible. However, we can only slow the spread if everyone in Texas does their part. Every Texan has a responsibility to themselves and their loved ones to wear a mask, wash their hands, stay six feet apart from others in public, and stay home if they can. I know that our collective action can lead to a reduction in the spread of COVID-19 because we have done it before, and we will do it again.”

Governor John Bel Edwards said: “ Be sure to wear a mask, practice social distancing, wash your hands and avoid congregating as Louisiana sees an increase of COVID-19 cases.
There you have it from two Governors.

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar warned
the country Sunday that coronavirus outbreaks
in Texas, Florida, Arizona and other southern and southwestern states threaten to spiral out of control without immediate intervention including widespread use of masks or face coverings.
"The window is closing," Azar said on NBC's "Meet the Press." "We have to act, and people as individuals have to act responsibly. We need to social-distance. We need to wear our face-coverings if we're in settings where we can't social-distance, particularly in these hot zones."

As our state and region re-open, we are faced with increases in the coronavirus. Area health officials and elected officials are asking all of us to help slow the spread so we can continue to stay open and expand.
The big three:
- Wear a mask when around others outside your family unit,
- maintain social distancing everywhere, and
- wash your hands frequently.
Please do your part.
And as we re-open the Chamber SWLA is joining other organizations in presenting Back to Business SWLA. When you shop or dine please support our area businesses.

Louisiana Small Business Loan Guarantee Program Still Available
While SBA may have expended all funding appropriated by Congress, Louisiana's state based program is still open for business. Time and again, Louisianans reach out and help their neighbors in times of crisis. The Loan Portfolio Guaranty Program is an example of that service. Governor Edwards has received commitments from banks and credit unions across the state that have agreed to help Louisiana's small businesses recover from the COVID-19 crisis.
