The ReMarks

He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and regarded others with contempt: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee, standing by himself, was praying thus, ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week; I give a tenth of all my income.’ 13 But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven but was beating his breast and saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner!’ 14 I tell you, this man went down to his home justified rather than the other, for all who exalt themselves will be humbled, but all who humble themselves will be exalted.”

We've gotta be honest, we're going to miss seeing all the international travelers being mystified by Waymos and getting more excited about Ranch sauce than your one friend who basically drinks the stuff. Alas, all good things must come to an end... except the good things at Saint Mark. Those never end. Here are some of the good things we've got coming up!

Church News

Camp Meeting Month

An early America camp meeting

"Camp meetings" emerged on the American frontier around the turn of the nineteenth century. Methodist circuit riders began organizing multi-day outdoor revival gatherings where families would camp on the grounds and attend worship services outside. Francis Asbury, one of the most influential Methodist leaders in America, described camp meetings as “fishing with a large net,” due to their effectiveness in spreading the gospel.

We won't be camping on the front lawn of Saint Mark (although we did think about it), but we will use this piece of American Methodism culture as an opportunity to not wear the traditional worship robes during service - and to serve lemonade on the lawn after 11:00AM worship throughout the month of August! We'll see ya out there.

RE-KEYING the Church Campus

hardware-hanging-keys.jpg

In an ongoing effort to secure the St. Mark campus, we will be rekeying approximately 30 interior doors throughout our buildings. This will not affect any exterior door entrance. The plan is to do this work towards the end of August. To minimize any inconvenience to our members, and to plan ahead for the keys needed, we are creating a key log to document who currently has keys to what doors. So, we need you to reach out and let us know over the next few weeks before the change is made. Please contact Mark Becker, Operations Coordinator, at mbecker@stmarkumc.org or 773.206.1949 to let him know.
