A Message from Our President, Kathy Beard

The Results Are In!

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Fort Lauderdale Chapter Board election. We are excited to welcome our new five-member Board of Directors, effective November 1, 2026. We had a record 53 YES votes, and we are grateful for your support and confidence in our chapter leadership.

I’m honored to continue serving as your President for up to one year as we transition into our new leadership structure. One of our goals is to mentor our Vice President, Justine Youngleson, over the next six months as she prepares to step into the President role. I’ll also continue serving as our Sponsorship Chair.

Please join me in welcoming our 2026–2027 Board:

Kathy Beard – President

Re-elected for up to a one-year term; continuing as Sponsorship Chair.

Justine Youngleson

Justine Youngleson - elected Vice President for a 2-year term (see above); she will be mentored into the role of President over the next 6 months

Kathy Burke - re-elected Treasurer for a 2-year term; she can opt to do a one-year term to stagger her position if desired

Keshia Mack - elected Communications Director / her duties are to work in Constant Contact on the newsletter, take notes and action items at board meetings (zoom does this automatically btw); assist in updating and refreshing website

Becky Barstow - elected Director to the board, / her duties are social media and marketing/sponsorship support

Why Five?

With the approval of our membership, we have moved to a five-person Board of Directors. This structure gives us greater flexibility, shared responsibility, and—most importantly—the ability to provide coverage and back-up when needed. It also allows us to build a stronger leadership pipeline for the future.

I’m excited about what this team can accomplish together. Our chapter is made stronger by the members who volunteer their time, share their talents, participate in events, and continue to make the Fort Lauderdale Chapter such a welcoming and active community.

Thank you for your vote, your support, and your continued commitment to our chapter. I’m looking forward to a great year ahead!

Congratulations to Eileen Bendis, who had both a birdie AND a closest to the pin at Golfing FORE! Shelter Pets Scramble at Oriole Golf Club on September 26th

Our inaugural Watson Links event is in the books! Held on Sunday, October 4th at Palm Beach National Golf Club, the event was spearheaded by Janine Young. We were thrilled to have strong support from Briana Jakeway and mentors from her group, Coffee or Tee Time, as well as several members from LPGA Amateur Fort Lauderdale Chapter.

Pictured above are the dedicated mentors who made the day a success. This marks the launch of a wonderful initiative that can be expanded to any golf course willing to donate afternoon tee times for mentees (ages 8–18). With full support from LPGA Amateur Corporate and Watson Links, we are now seeking mentors and sponsors for future events to support the mentees who are young golfers (age 8-18).

  • The Fall months can be a great time to recruit new members and continue encouraging current members to participate in Chapter events and activities! While additional information will be sent out about new member promotions that begins on Oct 1, here is a quick summary of the promotions: Guests of current members who attend a member/guest event between Oct 1 and Dec 31, 2026, can receive a 15% discount on a 2027 traditional membership or take advantage of complimentary Virtual Community Access. (Please note that these discounts are only valid for new members, those who have never been an LPGA Amateurs or are in our database). These events can be social (non-golf), fun golf, and/or competitive golf AND you can host more than one event. We are looking forward to seeing how creative Chapters can be in planning these fun events! Feel free to explore our Member Guest Toolkit for ideas. Additionally, member/guest events is a great opportunity to incorporate #inviteHER.
  • To assist Chapters in recruiting new members during the remainder of 2026, LPGA Amateurs will again be offering the 13-15 month membership for new members who join during the months of October - December 2026! Memberships for those who join in October - December 2026 will not expire until December 31, 2027!

Volleybird is an athletic lifestyle brand founded by Cassandra Toroian and Tracy Thomas, amateur players of racquet sports and golf, who saw the value in establishing a company that offers an e-commerce platform offering unique "surprise" bi-monthly subscription boxes for amateur players of tennis, pickleball, padel, and golf.

Each sport box is curated to include at least five premium items, such as gear, apparel, and wellness/self-care products, typically valued at over $200.

Volleybird's focuses is on a true "discovery experience" with luxury, full-size products from brands we all know in golf like Titleist and Sunday Golf, plus smaller brands that may be women-owned, ecofriendly, etc, that customers likely wouldn't find on their own since they aren't offered in big box retailers.

Check out the Volleybird website here:  https://volleybird.shop/

They are also on Facebook and Instagram.

They also created a free mobile app, Ruley the E-Referee GOLF edition, which is AI-powered to answer rule and procedure questions (there is also Ruley pickleball edition, Ruley tennis edition, and Ruley padel edition). I have used Ruley for golf rule questions. Works best with iPhones - AI driven,

Louise Boffice is an LPGA Amateur member with both the FTL and Palm Beach Chapters. She founded the company when she noticed a woman on a bicycle a flowered skort and white shorts underneath. She is a golfer and thought it would be a great idea to have a skort in a unique 2 print design. Vision became reality and she has been very successful! She is a generous sponsor to our chapter.
