Sandy Seed Library: Composting with Garden Debris & Worm Bins

August 15, 2024

6:00 PM

Sandy Community Room

Master Recycler, Kris LaMar will present on how composting with garden debris is easy and cheap, and you will have a strong and healthy garden when you add compost. Use compost to provide nutrients, to reduce your need for fertilizer and to improve the quality of clay or sandy soil. It also can be used as a mulch to control weeds and save water.

A worm bin can eliminate most of your food waste and at the same time provide soil amendments and fertilizer. Redworms are recyclers that transform kitchen waste to humus-rich soil conditioner in just a few months. To make them work for you, you need only supply them with a home, furnished with bedding and food.

Stepsister by Jennifer Donnelly

Cinderella's "ugly" stepsisters get a second chance to change their lives in this spin on Charles Perrault's original story. Through danger, hardships, and a little magic, Isabelle and Tavi, the two sisters, work to find the lost and broken pieces of their hearts. Donnelly illustrates how fate and chance try to intervene, but ultimately it's up to Isabelle and Tavi to take the chance and not let fate decide their path.

All library programs are sponsored in part by Friends of Sandy Library and Friends of the Hoodland Library
