MAY NEWS & UPDATES

backtoschoolmask.jpg

Important Reminder for All Families

As the school year winds down and we set our sights on summer days ahead, we must still remain vigilant regarding our established Covid protocol.

Masks are still very much required

indoors on the Riley campus.

Please ensure that for the remainder of the school year children arrive on campus with the masks they will need for the day. This seems to have recently fallen to the wayside and the rate at which we are  providing children with masks is not sustainable. With just two weeks of school remaining we must consider the impact of letting down our guard. The children have worked so hard on the spring play and this year's graduates deserve a wonderful and well attended send off.

Please send your children to school with masks so that we can enjoy the final weeks of the school year to the fullest!

Costume Details:

All children, including our wee Junipers, need brightly colored and/or patterned shirts (preferably not t-shirts) and brightly colored and/or patterned socks or leggings

Additionally, all middle schoolers and upper schoolers should have slim fitting shorts and t-shirts for under their costumes. There will be a lot of quick changes for our older children and not a lot of privacy behind the scenes.

Children performing as

Citizens of Emerald City

need green clothing- all greens welcome!

Children performing as crows

need black or gray clothing.

If you are still looking for costume pieces the Rockland Goodwill has a lot of great green throughout the store and some fantastic Munchkin shirt options in many different sizes in the women's section.

Art Week

What a wonderful treat it was to have so many artists sharing their craft on campus last week! For a full week the children were free to fully submerge in the artistic endeavors of their choosing and great fun was had by all!

Hurricane Island

Our semester of science with Kyle from Hurricane Island culminated in a trip to... Hurricane Island! The children hauled lobsters, counted young soft shell clams being protected from invasive green crabs, and even found time for a snooze! What an amazing opportunity it was for our children to get some hands on learning on this special, special island.

RILEY MISSION STATEMENT

The Riley School guides children to become independent, lifelong learners and innovative thinkers.

Founded as an intentionally small, Progressive, ungraded elementary school in 1972, Riley recognizes each child’s unique learning style. The innovative and personalized curriculum challenges children to express themselves and develop their own intellectual and creative capabilities through discovery, questioning and active engagement.

We foster a sense of responsibility towards our natural world, our community, and each other. We value cooperation and collaboration, while balancing the individual development of social, emotional and physical and academic growth.

At Riley we trust in children as learners. We honor and respect the uniqueness of the individual. We cherish and protect childhood.
