Happy Winter Everyone!

Folks often talk about where the beautiful snowy, cold winters of our youth have gone. Well....they have returned to Vermont this year!

Watching the full moon rise over the snow-crested mountain last night had me again appreciating where we live and what seems so sacred in our world. As I write to you now it again begins to snow.

Today I share a story about slowing down and allowing the horse to guide us. Realizing there may be more value in listening to them than carrying out our agenda. Often we wrestle with this. Remembering that life's a balance between control and surrender can help us. Horses can help us.

May all you do this season begin with the "seeing" and lead you to choose the pathway that offers enrichment to every interaction. All my Best, Heidi

Meeting Them Where They Are......

Dropping our "agenda" can be a challenge. I was recently reminded of a time in early Spring when things had finally dried up. I headed down the hill towards the barn, excited to be hooking up the trailer and heading out to one of our favorite riding spots for some fun and exercise. As I approached the horses I saw them all relaxing in the sun. I took in the serenity of the moment and the sense of calmness in that space. Quickly on its heels began my inner "debate" regarding my exciting "agenda" and the realization that Riley's mind was in a very different place. It didn't feel right to barge in and disturb the peacefulness of the herd. It felt selfish. I finally caved in and sat down, joining them in the moment, feeling safe, soaking in the sun, listening to the birds and the brook, and feeling the gentle breeze flow by. In that present moment, our energies and breath connected us. I let go of my time restraint and accepted that I was exactly where I needed to be at that time. It was a letting go, not always easy for me, but oh so valuable. I tend to fill my time running from one thing to the next. I decided to trade in our physical exercise for spiritual fulfillment. Sharing enriching moments is a great form of connection in the herd. While there certainly is a benefit and need for work and exercise, it's also good to embrace the idea of surrendering the moment. I think at 63 I'm finally getting the message. Wishing you an enriching journey in all you do!
