Potentate' s Message
Hard to believe Summer is winding down and soon the leaves will be changing. I'm sure you will agree though, we won't miss the heat and humidity we had.
In August, we had our fundraiser at Buffalo Wild Wings in Enfield. It was a great event with many people "eating wings and raising funds". Thanks to the many nobles and families that came out.
The Northeast Fall Field Days were held August 20-23 in Hyannis, MA. 17 Sphinx Nobles and spouses/families stayed at the Margaritaville Hotel and had a great time. Congratulations to the Motor Patrol who received 3 Awards in the Motor Corps Competition. The weather was rainy, but it cleared just in time for the Parade on Saturday.
I attended the Aisha Temple Daughters of the Nile Supreme Queen visitation on August 26. The Daughters of the Nile also support Shriners Children's and it was an honor to represent Sphinx.
Coming up this month will be our quarterly Stated Meeting on September 16, and a contingent of Sphinx Nobles are traveling to Virginia Beach for the 2026 MASA Convention.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable Summer and I thank you all for your support and all you do for Sphinx Shriners.

Dues Info:
Most of you will receive an emailed 2027 Dues Notice in September. If you do not have an email address registered with us, or if your email has changed, please notify the Recorder's Office so we can update your file. If you have registered in WebFez, you can update the file yourself. Paper notices will also be mailed, usually in October.
2027 total Regular Dues will be $134, which reflects Imperial's increase in the Per Capita Tax (PC). You can review the increase explanation in last month's newsletter.
You can avoid the PC Tax increase and any future increases in the Per Capita Tax by purchasing a Per Capital Tax Life Membership (PCLM) before December 31. The cost of the PCLM is currently $1,500, it will increase after December 31 to $1,620.
**If you still owe 2026 dues, please be sure to make 2026's payment by December 31, 2026, or you will be suspended. Sphinx ByLaws approved in May, 2026 changed non-payment suspensions from 2 years to 1 year effective with this year. **

Ally and Elly: The Strength of Shared Experiences
For 14-year-old Elly, soccer had been a part of her life since she was 4.
So, when doctors recommended spine surgery to prevent her scoliosis from progressing, her biggest questions weren't about the procedure itself. They were about whether she'd be able to get back on the field.
"I was terrified I wasn't going to be able to play soccer again," Elly said. "I was really scared about going under, too."
As Elly and her mom, Laurel, prepared for surgery, they met with Kylie Chupka, MS, CCLS, a child life specialist at Shriners Children's New England.

Edwin's Story: Finding a Community of Care at Shriners Children's Boston
Edwin was a baby when he sustained severe burn injuries to his face in his home country of Honduras.
He became a Shriners Children’s patient in 2017, when he underwent surgery at Shriners Children’s Ohio. Edwin’s care was transferred to Shriners Children’s Boston in 2018, and he and his mother, Karla, have traveled there every year since for treatment. According to Karla, they are grateful not only for the care Edwin has received, but also for the community they have built through Shriners Children’s.

What is “The ABK Visitation” and who attends?
ABK stands for Anah, Bektash, and Kora Shrines: Each year Anah Shrine of Bangor, Maine, Bektash Shrine of New Hampshire and Kora Shrine of Lewiston, Maine get together for a weekend of friendship and fellowship. For many years these three Shrine Centers have taken turns hosting the ABK Visitation.
The purpose of the Tri-Visitation was originally set forth so that Temples could reduce travel expenses incurred, time commitment and travel by their Divan. This year it is Kora Shrines time to shine and show off our Shrine Center.
All Nobility and their Ladies are welcome to attend. It is a great time to meet people from all over the Northeast and beyond. This weekend event can be done ala carte which means you pick the events that you want to attend. The highlight of the weekend will be the Murder Mystery Masquerade Dinner.
