In case you have not yet seen this report on lavender essential oil assessment, we encourage you to read it and share it with all those who may benefit from its results. We are grateful to NOW® for their continuing efforts and commitment to herbal product quality and safety.
In order to determine the composition of products marketed on Amazon as “Lavandula angustifolia” or “pure lavender essential oil” and whether they adhere to ISO standards for French/Bulgarian lavender oils, 28 lavender essential oil products were evaluated using GC-MS/FID (Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry/Flame Ionization Detection). The analysis included confirmation of authentic lavender species; detection of carrier oils, mineral oils, or extender materials; and identification of synthetic or fragrance-related compounds.
Of the 28 tested products, only three (11%) met ISO criteria for authentic Lavandula angustifolia essential oil with no evidence of adulteration. Notably, NOW® Lavender Essential Oil met ISO authenticity criteria with no evidence of dilution or synthetic formulation.
