What's your personal story?
I was born and raised in Austin, TX. As the oldest of two boys, I grew up with my parents, Joe and Jackie Guerra. My mom gave birth to me when they were young college students. Unable to continue their studies, my father worked multiple jobs while my mother stayed home to care for me and my younger brother, Jonathan, who was born 16 months later. I spent my formative grade school years attending schools in the Austin Independent School District before moving to Buda, Texas, where I attended Hays High School and eventually graduated. I spent the following four years attending Texas State University, completing my undergraduate degree in Mass Communication - Public Relations. I am the only member of my immediate family with a college degree.
What key moments in your life led you to where you are today?
I've had the distinct pleasure of working with exceptional leaders from across the country during my professional career. However, I've also encountered environments that didn't foster professional growth or unity. A pivotal moment came when I decided to launch my own consultancy in 2014. I made this decision rather quickly out of frustration with corporate America. My company is self-funded and has been serving approximately 175 school systems across 23 states for the past 10 years. As the first Latino-owned executive search firm in the country, we continue to evolve while staying true to our mission and vision.
Where does your passion to serve come from?
My family's inspiration and desire to support people of color reaching their full potential drive my work. Barriers continue to limit personal and professional growth for many, and I want to ensure everyone has a chance to showcase their talents and contribute to our global economy. We owe it to our nation's young people to model positive behaviors and values. Our democracy depends on the success of our public education system.
