Mentoring the Next Generation

At Girls Inc. LA, we have program volunteers that serve as mentors who listen, encourage and celebrate girls, helping them reach their full potential. Program volunteers guide activities, foster safe and welcoming spaces for conversations and support girls in building the confidence and leadership skills they need to thrive.

When asked why she volunteers with Girls Inc. LA at West Athens Elementary School, Yvonne Ayala shares, "It's the little moments no one else sees but us...seeing their faces light up when we validate their intelligence, seeing them create relationships with girls they never thought they'd talk to. Volunteering gives me a vast sense of purpose and meaning."

In celebration of National Mentorship Month in January, we invite you to volunteer and help mentor the next generation of strong, smart and bold leaders across Los Angeles.

Investing in

Youth Mental Health

As part of our ongoing professional development, staff completed the Youth Mental Health First Aid Certification course, equipping them with the tools needed to recognize and respond to the mental health challenges that youth might face.

The training was led by our Chief Program Officer and Youth Mental Health First Aid Trainer, Dorian Garcia. Dorian says, "Because we work directly with youth and are therefore responsible for keeping them safe, we are required to be First Aid certified, so why wouldn't we be equally prepared to support their mental health?"

At a time when mental health needs are growing, Girls Inc. LA staff is prepared to meet the needs of the whole girl.

Our Commitment to
Whole Family Support

Made possible by

The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation

Girls Inc. of LA was proud to support 500 families with gift cards to ease financial stress during the holidays.

Now in its second year, this holiday initiative was made possible thanks to the generous support of The Chuck Lorre Family Foundation. At Girls Inc. LA, we focus on a holistic approach to supporting girls that extends beyond the classroom and reflects our commitment to deepening our roots in the schools and communities we serve.

We are deeply grateful for partners who support our girls, their families and their communities.
