Follow Kelsey Peterson’s journey as a dancer while she continues to find and love herself in her recovery after a spinal cord injury. In Module One: A Mindset for Approaching Midlife, we will talk about the basics of menopause, define terms and symptoms, discuss options for managing and coping with this transitional life stage and embrace a mindset of empowerment. SUSAN MARSHALL FIGHTING SPIRIT AWARD
SCI BC is pleased to announce the relaunch of the Susan Marshall Fighting Spirit Award. After Susan passed away members of her family, along with her good friends Roger Jones and Terry LeBlanc, created an award to recognize SCI BC peers who exhibit Susan’s resilience, positive attitude and concern for the wellbeing of others.
Nominations for this award open this March, with $1,000 awarded to the successful candidate later this year.

SLEEP ROUTINES AND SLEEP DISTURBANCES AFTER SCI
ICORD researcher Dr. Claydon and community partner SCI BC are interested in learning more about the sleep routines, disturbances, and barriers to sleep supports experienced by individuals with SCI. The survey asks about sleep quality, sleep routines (i.e., turning), and sleep problems (i.e., sleep apnea, neuropathic pain, autonomic dysreflexia) as they present in the nighttime. They will also ask how your sleep affects your quality of life.

SEX DIFFERENCES IN CARDIAC FUNCTION IN INDIVIDUALS WITH HIGH-LEVEL SCI
ICORD researchers are investigating whether there are differences between the male and female heart in individuals with SCI between the C4 and T6 levels. They want to know whether these sex-related differences in the heart exist at rest, and also when your posture changes. The study involves a 1-time laboratory visit and they are recruiting people with SCI, as well as uninjured participants.

PRIORITIES FOR RECOVERY FOLLOWING SCI
Individuals living with SCI, healthcare professionals/ clinicians, and researchers/scientists are invited to complete a survey. The goal is to assess the SCI community’s priorities for recovery as well as to assess the understanding of recently developed technologies, in particular, spinal cord stimulation as a rehabilitation strategy.

RECREATIONAL ADAPTIVE DEVICES (RAD) STUDY
Researchers at UBC have partnered with RAD Society with the aim of designing outdoor programs to encourage outdoor recreational activity for individuals with mobility impairments. The purpose of this study is to understand the needs, interests, and challenges of individuals with mobility impairment regarding outdoor recreational activity and the development of a recreational adaptive device loan program.

EPIC-SCI: A RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
Exercise can be a pain. But what if it could reduce your pain?
The EPIC-SCI study is looking for people with SCI to follow the International SCI Exercise Guidelines, the first exercise guidelines specifically for people with SCI! We think this opportunity is great because you get a personalized exercise program, a trainer, and a health coach. Plus, your weekly exercise can be completed from the comfort of your home.

NERVGEN CLINICAL TRIAL
NervGen Pharma Corp. is actively recruiting for a landmark Phase 1b/2a proof-of-concept clinical trial of NVG-291 in individuals with spinal cord injury at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago.
We are grateful for a grant from Wings for Life to help support this study
2 cohorts of people (~20 each):
- Chronic Injury: 1-10 years following injury
- Subacute Injury: 10-49 days following injury
Some of the eligibility requirements include:
- Age 18-75
- Cervical SCI resulting from acute physical trauma
- Must have some minimal function in hand

MONTHLY MAKERS MAKING CHANGE INFORMATION SESSION

Join Makers Making Change Monthly at their monthly information session! Regional coordinators will introduce the Makers Making Change (MMC) project and provide attendees with everything they need to know to be a part of this exciting project. This is a great opportunity to ask questions or to figure out how you want to get involved – whether it be to receive devices, volunteer to build, or whatever you think you can contribute!
MMC connects makers to people with disabilities to create affordable open source assistive technologies, utilizing technology such as Arduino microcontrollers, 3D printing and laser cutting.

With a successful launch in May 2020, PARC online classes have been continuing ever since. Participating in the classes will help you stay healthy and will enable you to connect with the PARC community remotely. The classes follow a regular schedule and are led by the UBC Kinesiology students.
