Birthdays are fun!

July 4th is the birthday of America! West University United Methodist Church is celebrating 90 years! Every Christmas we celebrate the birthday of our Savior, Jesus Christ. During the Christmas season we send greeting cards to our family and friends. It is a ritual we delight in as we share our faith and gratitude for the Blessed Birth of Jesus Christ.

Many people celebrate our birthday with us: parents, friends, family, work, and school associates. We celebrate with kisses, gifts, cards, phone calls, a trip, and other special ways. Do you have an annual ritual you share with a friend?

A former minister at St. Luke’s Methodist church called each member on the birthday! Some churches recognize members’ birthdays in the weekly newsletter. Others acknowledge the birthday person from the pulpit and the choir leads in the church singing, “Happy Birthday.”

How does West University United Methodist Church celebrate your birthday? Hopefully, you receive a postcard from one of the Birthday Angels of the Congregational Care Committee. The card probably contains a hand-written message, a verse or two of scripture, and lots of love! Who are these dedicated correspondents who gladly and cheerfully reach out to you on your birthday? Well, the secret is out! Thanks to Judye Perry, Roberta Todd, Meg Caldwell, Vinoa Wilson, Carol Cherry (recently promoted to Heaven), and Phyllis Nardy—the current Birthday Angels of 2026--you are not forgotten! Praise God for these lovely ladies and their ministry! It’s truly a labor of love!
