Life is Good!

The shop was bustling last weekend during the Knitting in the U.S.A. book signing event with Nancy Bates. Nancy is such a kind and warm person and she signed all the books I had in stock! So even if you missed the event, you can still get a signed copy...while supplies last. And I'm slowly building my inventory of new beanie kits from the new book.

I celebrated my Double Nickels (55th) birthday this past week...thus my proclamation that Life is Good! I am so grateful that I have such a competent staff that I was able to escape for 4 days. I went glamping at the fabulous Huttopia Wine Country. The place was so peaceful and serene and I was able to do so many things that bring me joy. I finished my Ovis Sweater in Rambouillet and cast on my Sunday Sweater in Beatrix. I knit and listened to audiobooks and wandered around a beautiful area with Beverly!

I'm also grateful for the thoughtful happy birthday messages and cards I have received from this community.

I Love Beatrix...Merino and Angora Bulky Luxury

Beatrix (named for the author Beatrix Potter) is a new and exciting yarn from Juniper Moon Farm! As I write this newsletter, I'm currently snuggled up in my Sunday Sweater knit using Beatrix that I cast off this morning.

I picked this yarn because of its unique combination of ethically sourced angora & extra fine merino wool. Weighing in at a bulky gauge, it's a great value with each 50 gram ball providing 109 yards. I used 7 balls for my sweater.

I love the feel of the yarn next to my skin and it knits into a lightweight and warm garment!

Felted Bowls and Balls by Fibres of Life

Your favorite Felted Notions Bowls are back in stock! These felted notions bowls are perfect for your stitching side table. Stash your yarn and notions whenever you're ready for a break.

These bowls are the newest addition to the Zero Waste fair trade products from Fibres of Life. I also love my Felted Dryer Balls. These dryer balls have significantly more wool, and much more dense felt which means a reduced dry time of 30-50% and a lifetime of 500 - 1000 loads. They're also eco-friendly by being constructed from the felt cut-offs from other Fibres of Life products.

Smirligans Re-Stock and Advent Calendars

The pop-up event with Heather from Smirligans during the Shop Anniversary Weekend in October was such a success that I had nearly sold out of so many of her newest colorways. But Heather stopped by this weekend and re-stocked the shop with your favorites from the Ocean Series and the Bird Series.

I'm also delighted to offer a limited quantity of her 2025 Advent Calendars! These yarn advent calendars feature 12 days of hand-dyed yarn surprises in the form of 11 20-gram mini-skeins and 1 100-gram skein of fingering weight 75% SW Merino/25% Nylon yarn. This year Heather was inspired by the colors of the Vermont seasons.

Are There Moths Lurking in Your Stash?

The idea of moths munching on our knits is the stuff of nightmares. Unfortunately, it's a nightmare I lived through several years ago when I moved a trunk full of hand-knit sweaters infested with moth eggs in a shipping container across the Atlantic Ocean!

I recently discovered an article by Kate Larson in Farm & Fiber Knits that I feel compelled to share! Kate describes what to look for and how to prevent an infestation.

As a result of my personal trauma, I stock several cedar accessories to store with my yarn and my hand-knit items. I also block and hand wash my knit garments using Eucalan Wool wash. Both the Eucalyptus and Lavender scents help keep moths away. I sell Eucalan in the shop but not online because I'm not equipped to ship liquids.
