NCBC is Proud to Announce

the 2023 Natosha Lynne Morton Scholarship Winner

Congratulations Rita Longoria

This year the National Consortium of Breast Centers announced the return of the  Natosha Lynne Morton Memorial Scholarship

graciously funded by MagView®

This scholarship provides recognition to a deserving Breast Health professional who best exhibits character, compassion, and caring in conjunction with providing the best possible care to patients.

Ms. Morton was a lifelong supporter of Breast Cancer Detection. Under her leadership as Center Director at Houston Northwest Medical Center, the site became the first Certified Quality Breast Center of Excellence in the NCBC's NQMBC Program. She was actively involved with numerous charities involving the detection, education, and treatment of breast cancer patients. After a long struggle, Mrs. Morton succumbed to the very disease she had so passionately fought against.

Here is a little bit about our winner, Rita Longoria

Rita Longoria has worked for CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Hospital - San Marcos since 2006. She worked there as an ED nurse until 2018 when she became a Breast Health Navigator.

When approached, she was given the green light to create a program from ground level. She had been approached about taking on the role of breast navigation several times throughout her tenure. She felt it didn't seem fair to commit doing something that she couldn’t handle herself. After many years of resisting, she knew God was calling her to use her journey to help others.

She learned it is important to educate patients timeline(s) for each step to help REDUCE anxiety and stress. The patient that is well educated her cancer care and what to expect handles the journey with grace and resilience.

She is a Native Texan, wife, mother of 3 beautiful adults, and a Mimi to a grandson and granddaughter. She enjoys saltwater fishing and watching her son coach HS football.

Rita is an 18-yr. breast cancer survivor. BIL MASTECTOMY with DIEP Flap breast recon.

Thank you to all who applied and know that you all are very important in helping patients during their journey.

And A Special Thank You to Magview®
