Youth Outreach

The First Methodist Church of Eastland will be initiating its Youth Music Program this Wednesday, Oct. 4th at 4:30 pm. The program will be held at the church and will take place from 4:30-5:30 pm and will lead into our evening worship service, R&R, along with a free meal. Any 8th-12th grader who is interested in learning electric/acoustic guitar, bass guitar, piano/keyboard, drum set, or vocals is encouraged to participate. We will be providing free lessons for each of these instruments and will form a youth praise band that will be equipped with the skills to lead worship in church-related and community events. No musical background is required, though it will be beneficial. If you are interested simply show up on Wednesday and we will get you set up! You can also contact Cody Hutcheson, the church Music Minister, at firstmethodistyouth215@gmail.com

Pastor's Ponderings

Romans 8:9-11 CEB

But you aren’t self-centered. Instead you are in the Spirit, if in fact God’s Spirit lives in you. If anyone doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, they don’t belong to him. 10 If Christ is in you, the Spirit is your life because of God’s righteousness, but the body is dead because of sin. 11 If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your human bodies also, through his Spirit that lives in you. 1

I am still amazed at the grace that God affords me. I am often convicted of my tendency to out run God’s spirit, yet one of the things that is promised with life in the spirit is new life. I can remember when I came to Christ. I thought everything would change for me immediately. While there was a change in my heart, changing habits has been a life long pursuit of sanctification. Jesus did not just offer us a new life, through the Spirit he has given us a helper and companion to walk with us in this new life. This is a constant

reminder of just how awesome God is. When we shift our minds from what we used to desire to what the spirit desires, the Spirit of God brings us new life, new freedom, nerw peace and a new glory in our lives.

Ask yourself this question. When was the last time I felt the Spirit of God in my life? Have you invited the Spirit into your life. In the words of an old commercial, “Try it, you’ll like it.”

Blessings on each of you this day.
